What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Looks good, keep an eye on those JBA boots...been seeing a lot of issues with them cracking/splitting open, apparently JBA is unable to send out replacements because their supplier is backordered or something. Not sure if its the case with every set of arms or just some.

Thank you! I just ordered these earlier this month so they are the new and improved boots took about a month to get from when i placed the order.

 

I got both those spots full as well, front fogs and rear lights

Yeah, I’m undecided about them. They’ve definitely made a few situations easier for me to negotiate in the snow and saved me a bunch of winching where I probably would have turned around if I had to winch my way through a snowy section in the spring, but they take up so much room, these ones are heavy, and I’m trying to stay contained to what I can fit inside of the bed and cab without a bed rack or roof rack and lose a little bit of weight off the truck to make up for the sliders, skid plates and rear bumper I’ll be putting on.

 

Got her all moved down to the new place today. Took my enclosed trailer up to load the parts and tools I have lying around up there and borrowed a tilt deck to bring her home.got the bird shit pressure washed off.bed will be coming back off Monday so I can start wire wheeling the frame. Feel like I starting to get close!

 

After seeing a set of maxtrax in person for the first time recently, I get it now. They seem far superior to what I have. Won’t be buying a set until I break mine, but they’re cheap enough that they’ll definitely break.

 

yeah i still had mixed results with the maxtrax. But they did work "better" than others no doubt. Certainly helpful in conjunction with other gear. Just not totally what they have cracked up to be. Which isn't THAT surprising honestly.

I am not familiar with how basically anything in suspension works. The most technical job I've done is put new wheel bearings and repack birfields on an 80 series Land Cruiser.

With that being said, are my CVs angled too much? I'm assuming that is where the pile of grease is coming from, but I haven't taken the wheel off to check for sure. The passenger side upper CV boot is basically gone, you can see the little bearings. Do I need to replace my CVs or can I just get a new boot installed?

Yeah your inner boot fins on the CV axle are crunched together, the inners are usually what tears on 1st gens if the lift is too much. CVs spin all the time (even in 2wd) with ADD trucks so if they are rubbing, they tear apart quick.

Some will say you need a diff drop, but they are useless in my experience. Mine didn't solve the angle at all. Only thing that worked for me was lowering the front end to 2 inch lift.

There's also high angle boots, boot slide mod, and even high angle axles out now. I just lowered my lift

 

Thought I'd type this up while my hands and fingers are still working. I finally got the Throttle body and MAF cleaned today. Also replaced the PVC valve and grommet. Couldn't believe how dirty the TB was. All the little holes inside were completely clogged up. Because of another member here, I used a tooth pics to clean them out. Also used up half a role of black electricians tape on the neck of my windshield washer reservoir, which was so cracked up, I'm surprised it didn't fall apart. Sorry no pics.
After I was finished, cranked up the truck and it idled high, around 2k rpm. I took it for a 10 mile ride and everything went back to normal. So glad I did this. The Pvc valve was completely clogged up and the grommet was hard and brittle. Had one piece fall inside the valve cover, but I was able to retrieve it with a spring loaded claw, and a flash light. I'm hoping maybe this will improve my gas milage which has been a little off lately. just a few small tasks in keeping her running good.

Gotcha. I just bought the truck and the PO gave me the receipt for the lift install and it did have a diff drop done. I don't know how to check really but if the lift is adjustable, I'll just lower it a bit. Is there a way to check if my CVs are junk without removing them?
