Nice, I think that's the Daimler unit, solid trans if I remember right, they handle aftermarket boosted versions of that 6.3 well into the 700whp range. My 135i has the 7spd dual wet clutch system that the M3s use (well up until this year haha, they killed it), shifts at max speed are 80ms, but like you said it's nice to sometimes flop it into normal drive mode and let it control (which is 150-250ms shifts depending). But since it's an auto, does yours come with adjustable launch control too?

That 6.3 is a damn mechanical gem and I'll have a go at anyone who says otherwise. When you have some free time go find the Easter eggs, the AMG employee who built it will have their signature lasered in all over.

    I have this

    and this lying around:

The MX5 has a transponder issue that I can't seem to sort out but I haven't had time to really dig into it. But then I keep looking at this engine wondering if I should say "screw it, do it!" but then the time factor kicks in again. And do I really want that project or just fix the car and pedal it.

At least you guys aren't playing with Bimmers. What pieces of shit those cars are to work on.

Do it, the LS miata swap is common place now, tons of info and resources for parts to do it quickly. And I am playing with a Bimmer, 135i is just an even smaller version of the 335i. All luxury cars are nightmares to work on these days, pick your poison.

Yeah, I'm useless in 1st through 3rd if I hold the pedal to the floor, shit just keep spinning, I peak at 24psi on shift and the wheels just break loose. Traction control keeps it in check a bit too much so I've had the M3/M4 MDM traction mode coded in, I can have some wheel spin and moderate yaw movement before intervention. It helps but still lets me have fun. Launch control is great though on the dual clutch trans like mine, you set the RPM and it holds and makes boost then you let off the brake and it drops the clutches (or if you have it set it will slip and feather for maximum traction). How much life is left in your Pilot Sport 4s, they were 8k tires for me, trying some Potenza SA007 now after rave reviews from the friend with the M3.

For sure, make sure to bring the garage up to moderately warm in the coldest winter months, anything below 25* ruins the Pilot sports, they flat spot and then crack. They uh, were the candle that burns twice as bright for me, they grip great but they're a short lived tire.

Good point! Haha. I was researching this swap and was amazed how many companies make parts for the swap. Of course I wouldn't spend 13k on a 4k car so I'd have to get creative with my structural bracing and probably convert the rear to a Porche center section to hold the power. It would be a fun car in the end though. I did a BB Chevy swap into a '71 Vega when I was a kid so I imagine this would be similar in proportion.

I rag on my old tech who opened his own shop. Every time I go in there, he's balls deep into a top end trying to find problems, plus he and his wife and kid have 3 of them and he's always having to tinker with the two older ones. Hers is two years old and been in and out of the stealership for TSBs and recalls. But I guess that's most new cars these days.

Hello again. I finally got mostly moved into my house in Worland. That was kind of a ride.

The gig here is pretty sweet. We flew over devil’s tower and Mount Rushmore in one flight the other day.

Too bad you aren't closer. I have two of those that I'm never going to use and considered tossing. Should probably throw them in the OSK in case I'm ever on the trail with you and you need one.

You're running an ARB compressor, right? While I think it's unlikely that a 40A fuse is going to blow under a normal compressor load, it could potentially happen.

Alternately, carry one in your OSK for me :p

I always have a couple of spare in my tool kit. My first dual compressor, since replaced by ARB, used to randomly blow the fuses.
