I have a stocko oem stereo which if i dont believe the size is 6.5 double din if i buy the same exact size with a stereo that has apple car play would i need mounts ? if this doesnt make sense sorry

 

You should be able to reuse the hardware and or brackets off your OEM radio, and or your new radio should come with whatever is needed to mount it in the dash.

You will want an adapter harness so you don't have to cut and solder into your factory wires, unless you want to go that route.

As for size, it's just Double DIN. DIN is the standard for automotive radio sizes, two DIN tall is called Double DIN. The 6.5" measurement is arbitrary I believe, or at least non relevant.

You will probably also need a "fit kit" or trim ring to go around your new aftermarket radio.

Eh in this day and age most aftermarket are pretty reasonable in quality.

Depending on what you're looking for speakers may be a better upgrade than a head unit if you're looking for sound quality.

I used my original head unit with a cassette adapter for years in my '00 with Kenwood speakers and a remote self amplified plug and play 10" sub until I wanted blue tooth to make calls.

I've been using JVC head units because they're more simple looking and had the option to color match your dash lights with RGB LEDs and I have been pretty happy though I'm sure other brand have caught on to that trend now too.

As for Car-Play or Android Auto feature rich integrated head units I can't recommend one as I prefer "dumbed down" single Din units, though I have heard mostly positive reviews of "Joying" head units with the primary complaint being long ish boot times.

At this point my HU is nothing more than an Blue Tooth AUX input for my phone I do everything off my device with my heads up hands free dash mount.

But in general I recommend JVC/Kenwood (Same brand now) and Alpine. Those are ones I have personal experience with.

 

Check in with Crutchfield too, they're customer service is supposedly top notch and they can answer any questions you have and recommend products for your specific use case.

They tend to be prices just a hair over most competition but their customer support and that they typically throw in adapters, plugs, spare fuses and the like more than make up for it.

Or so I've been told.

When I redo my current audio setup I will be going through them but I don't have first hand experience yet.

 

Well the boss BV755B is what u am looking at and I am trying to found mounts for it and it’s like impossible

it’s the same size as the stock radio so idk

 

It should reuse the factory mounts. Just two stamped steel thin gauge brackets and like 4 10mm head bolts each. Two into the dash support and 2 into the radio on each side.

Take those off the OEM and reinstall on the aftermarket.

Audio equipment is standardized so you won't find specific mounts.

What you would look for is the Metra Dash Kit for a 1996-04 Tacoma or similar. It may be broken into like 1994-1997 1998-2002 2002-2004 or something just find the one that fits your year.

But that may be unnecessary for your use case as double din should completely fill the factory hole and the original trim should still fit.

 

I’m taking it to a family friend I am not really inclined when it comes to this stuff I more of an engine type of guy.... but if I can reuse the old mounts that would be nice

 

highly recommend crutchfield. Customer service was awesome and they send a printed install sheet with your stuff vehicle specific. Couldn’t be happier.

 

The factory mounts will work. I did run into a issue with a sony needing a different size bolt to mount the bracket to the radio body.
But a fist gen Tacoma has to be the easiest radio swap ive ever done.
