Heading up to Pine Creek Gorge / Valley area in a week to stay at a cabin with the family. First time up that way. Plan on some things like the views over the gorge, fishing (hopefully some fly fishing for me, as well as family friendly fishing for my little one and wife), and hiking to waterfalls, etc.

I did get the Purple Lizard map of the area so I have to study up, but I wanted to ask, has anyone had experience exploring around that area in the truck? Not sure the off-road trails are extensive like Bald Eagle, but maybe there are some nice unpaved tracks.

Would love to hear of any neat spots or good things to do, if anyone has been around that area.

    Thanks!

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Plenty of roads in the area to explore. How far up are you going? Wolfe's General Store in Slate Run has those maps I believe...and an Orvis fly shop. The water behind the shop is Pine Creek. From there down to Bonnell's Run (It's called The Stretch and is a couple miles long) is stocked with huge German Browns as well as State stockies. It's catch and release only. There are several parking areas below Slate Run as well; Black Walnut Bottom, Tombs, Ross Run, and another I am forgetting.

    Good Luck.

I haven't really been up to that area but my coworker was camping on Pine Creek last weekend and he said it was cold as balls.

Another coworker said the fishing on Pine Creek has been really weird. He caught a perch last week.

That's all the info I really have.

Awesome, thanks! I was thinking we would drive all the way up...sort of Jersey Shore to Wellsboro / Tioga. We are staying in Camal.

That sandwich shop sounds like a good stop for lunch and then try some fishing. I just have to try to stick to mostly shore-fly fishing since I'll have my little one with me (and a wife without waders), and that gets tough sometimes for line casting clearance.

One fishing shop up there in Wellsboro recommended Hamilton lake as a good family fishing spot, and also stocked with trout. Been a while since I've fly fished still water for trout...maybe it's easier, ha!

Thanks, yes it snowed pretty good all up that way in that time you mention last weekend, I think! It was even 31 down here in West Chester. I have a feeling it'll be nice and moderate in a week or so up there, unless there's another fluke weather pattern.

Check out Tombs then. It has a huge open area you can fish from the bank. I'll post a pic when I can get back to a comp.

The brown was caught there two years ago drifting a green wooly bugger and the rainbow this year on a white dry fly... See it at his belly. I missed a huge brown on an elk hair caddis after the rainbow.

Well, I got my gravel... in the rain. I had hoped it would be delivered this morning but it came about the same time as the rain. The delivery man was great though. He spread the gravel as best and as much as he could. I tried to finish up the areas that were inaccessible to him with my shovel and wheel barrow but the rain started coming down rather hard so I figure I'll finish the job another day. I still worked up a sweat though, even in a cold rain. :anonymous:
