    Hey all,

I have a 2018 Toyota Tacoma V6. Yesterday I started to smell fuel, but wasn’t sure if it was my truck or the snowmobiles by my house. This morning I gave the wife a ride to work and smelled fuel again follow by a large puddle under my truck. I was able to drive it to a heated garage to work on and while doing so I could see the fuel gauge slowly go down, not drastically, but enough to see. Once I parked a decent amount of fuel came out. I took apart the intake system to look at the fuel rail and such, but it looks dry. Can somebody point me to where else to look to save me some time. Right now the engine too wet and the ground from the melting snow so I’ll have to wait until it drys a bit to start looking for anything noticeable out of place.

This forum group was awesome with my recent northern Tacoma woes. Hoping I get success again.

    Thanks!

Engine area for sure? Folks stealing fuel will cut the filler neck to siphon out fuel.

The other issue that has been noted was folks nicking the filler neck when enlarging the left drain hole in the bed for a tonneau drain installation.

Yeah for sure coming from somewhere under the engine bay. Only when running. Forgot to note that I didn’t have any loss in performance.

The rodent idea is coming to mind? Maybe one chewed through the flex line between the frame and engine.

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
Did you have the fuel pump recall done recently where tech may have pulled or stressed lines or disconnected something to confirm pressure problems near the engine? I'd let if all flash off and vent then look at it. Get it as far away as possible from sparks and open flames.

Maybe, I didn’t think they’d be out yet as we are still in winter haha. It’s all tundra so we have arctic fox, hare and siksik.

I would look around the High pressure pump. Pressurized the fuel system by putting the key in acc or atleast unil you hear the fuel pump prime.

make sure you have an extinguisher handy

The HPFP is cam driven. The engine would have to be running. Not a good situation, like you noted.

I had a fuel leak from the pump flange on my bike. It was running down right onto the header. I made the pucker call to ride it home about 5mi. The clench was real and tight that whole short trip.

I’m in a fly in only spot. No dealer or proper mechanics. I am on my own. Last time I had an issue the only certified mechanic in the hamlet chargers beyond $300 a hour. The bill was crazy and Toyota wouldn’t cover any of it. I am still in fights with Toyota to cover warranty work at another certified mechanic, but they aren’t budging. Seems that Ford is the only company in my hamlet that will honour warranty work up to the cost of what the job would cost them.

I went out to where my truck was parked in the snow and it looks like it leaked from the driver side of the engine bay.

Check where the catalytic converter comes out of the engine bay from underneath. There's some fuel lines on the driver's side that come through there I believe.

    Heat cooked em maybe?

this is one for the books, be interesting to find out where it is leaking from.
just a thought, where is that canister gizmo located, maybe from it?

Canister is forward from the spare tire, not likely to leak fuel.

The fuel neck is likely the cause, pull back the inner liner and use a flash light to look under where the fuel neck goes down.

If you want to drive 3000kms to me in Calgary I can help you out!

Get the recall, they'll probably fix it then for free. you should still be under factory warranty

Considering where the op lives, I don't think that's a viable option unless they plan to sled dog tow it there.:anonymous: dude lives north of Canada :fistbump:Screenshot_20210430-200107_Maps.jpg
