I’ve ran both times and I personally like the VR Light throttle. The throttle response is different on the VR tune. It doesn’t feel as much like pedal sensitivity but more like the actual power of the truck. It’s a bit hard to explain. There are adjustments on the low end power wise which make it more responsive to the throttle. Good pull in lower rpms without downshifting. Not twitchy or jumpy by any means. I will say by my experience the Premium file runs smoother than the regular. They both great but premium just seems smoother.

The light throttle on VR is less than KDMax since we do not produce as much power as they do. Standard is still pretty light compared to it and may equal SLT (never drove it or heard any comparison personally).

Octane dependence is what I refer to regarding the edits to timing and knock value corrections. Regular will still benefit from premium fuel, however the premium file is designed to run on the higher octane gasoline. You can still run regular with the premium file, it will just have more abnormal knock values and require more correction by the engine computer. Therefore leading to poor fuel economy.

They still learn based on the octane pumped into the tank.

In the future I will be taking an approach towards files that learn but show no negative effects of running a lower fuel. Hence the octane independent push I’m making

The future OI files will have some of the premium adjustments incorporated exactly how they are.

You can ask @uploadadventure, I’m currently narrowing down and chasing the source of all knock values. It’s damn near an obsession at this point

The premium version has been great so far! Now if gas prices would just go down! Luckily this is just my weekend warrior/baby hauler.

Have you tested any of these files with non ethanol gas? @TermLimits

If I’m able to narrow down and get a steady and consistent knock value on mid grade, in theory it should have a similar consistency on regular and premium

Not yet, I moved away from OKC last year and kinda miss the non-ethanol options

You should have some by you in N TX if you wanna test it out. I’ll provide you with a experimental file if you’d be willing

I’ve thought about running a tank of it after this on the regular file since all I have around here is 87 nonE

So I ran kdmax in my truck great power but guzzled gas . So I started chatting with @TermLimits and started running his tune and it was a huge benefit for the truck running vr. I love the power curve and the mpgs, also the shifting and gear holding is spot on for me .

I have a Bucees about 30mins down the road that has it up to 91. I ran 87 nonE with the Regular 2.0 file. But it was sluggish regardless. So I went back to Premium since I didnt like how that file ran.

And another note I was in moab for a week on trails and 4lo worked flawless plenty of power throttle didn't make offroading difficult.

I’ve been running corn-free for months here in Fla. It’s only available in 89 where I live. You have a special file for testing on non-eth? I would be happy to check it out if you need feedback.
And overall, this VR tune is impressive. Not too much and smooth as hell.

I’ll look into what nonE causes typically with knocks. Going to dive into the math of it all and then change some maps around. Give me a few days to a week

Out of curiosity, what kind of knock values are you getting with mid grade?

    I'm running mid, 90 e0 (cheaper than 89 e10)

Both give me the same feel and knock values though.

I see between 23 and 25 knock learn (with my timing changes).

I monitor "Knock F/B Value (deg)" as it provides more detail to me in seeing which engine loads produce the knocks.

Acceptable ranges for this value are -5 to +5, I've only once seen a positive number register in early testing.

On VR 2.0.3 I'm keeping the truck at -3 for idle and sub 43% load, very steady. When accelerating hard, knock values will dip to -3.5 to -4. A sudden reduction in engine load such as accelerating hard and letting off the pedal will result in -5 to -6 knock value. The out of range values occur in every tune even factory, this is a lean knock due to the delay in throttle body closing. Essentially the engine brings in the air to keep accelerating, but for one cycle it injects less fuel and uses the residual airload, resulting in a split second lean value.

In experimental files for midgrade, I'm staying steady between 0 and -4. I'm to the point where I'm chasing a specific range of load values which produce the -4. The obsession goal is to have a smooth, zero knock value.

This log has multiple 0-60 runs I performed during additional testing

I am really digging what’s been going on with @TermLimits stuff.

My fat ass truck has an intake and dump tubes. Plus 5.29’s and 35’s. And heavy. Term is taking the time to actually get the knocks down on my truck. (We’re talking future stuff, on the current tune I had almost no knock issues) I’m stoked for you guys to see what’s coming. It’s not necessarily a throw you in the seat tune, but it’s smooth. Everything is just getting better. And as it settles it doesn’t get worst like 2.0 did for some.
Anyways. I digress. If Term gets these knocks on my truck down, then it’ll run amazing on stock trucks because the ECM will run between the proper values as it should.

OV 2.0 not VR 2.0 you mean haha. Nobody has had knock values worsen on mine, typically they get smoother as they settling in more and more

    Yes. OV 2.0
    VR no issues. Smooth knocks.
    Thank you for clarifying

I've been accumulating TS log files since 1.05 and seeing -5 -6 values was pretty common, especially on upshifts or downshifts to 4th. What is your KCLV now? 1.05 log below
