Its ok! Most people don’t look for rust. When they do, they show up here on TW.

So you are typing these things, but are you reading them.

You had it undercoated once in 10 years? And you are saying it should be rust free on the inside of the frame? :frusty: Look at the rear end of that truck. Those 2 things do not line up.

    Welcome.

So you believe Toyota is "purposely" sabotaging frames, under the guise of frame treatment? And you're upset that your (2011) rusted frame, which has been coated once 10 years ago, is indeed rusting? Sub'd for the comments.

You have to take care of your truck. Here is the frame on my 2012 and I drive through salted states every year.

You should try and live in the rust belt.
My frame doesn't look nearly as bad as his, not perfect, but I didn't rely on Toyota or its dealerships. I'm under my truck at least twice a year touching up spots. My rear bumper is going to need replacing in the future, and the rear axle isn't the prettiest, but not as bad as some I've seen. I've been looking at Coastal Offroad bumpers as a replacement or toying with the idea of creating one of my own design. Just haven't decided.
The trouble I see with all these rust preventive treatments is that they're all bandaid fixes for poorly called out material spec and design.

I live in Northern Vermont by Quebec border that is subjected to heavily coated salt and brine from October to April. I definitely treated my 2013 from day 1, just had Toyota do the CRC inside the frame. After that I treated the frame again just like I have since day 1. It is just the nature of the beast in Northern Climate. I never park in my heated garage in Winter time either. That is the worst thing. Even if it's occasionally heated to let snow melt, I would not do because the rust just loves silently infiltrate and sidously eat away at these toyota frames since the beginning of time or at least 1995.5.

no need to be an asshole to the guy and beat him while he is down.

i think the point is, these frame rust easily. if you want it to last, you need to take care of it annually. the toyota coating is likely not the cause of the rust you are seeing, it just made it more obvious when it dripped on the garage.

hope toyota can somehow take care of you - maybe they will replace the frame for ya.

You can't just treat your frame once in 2011 and call it a day. I have had my truck treated with Krown EVERY year since I've had it and have NO rust on it. I had the Toyota CRC treatment just in case and it took my warranty on the frame out to 12 years. I will still continue to have the frame sprayed every year for as long as I have it....because that is what you have to do with a Tacoma frame that lives in the salt belt.

I use a light duty industrial soap, pressure wash and spray this with a large nozzle spray gun. I have been using this for decades, works great and last a long time. My skids, sidebars, and bumpers are all sprayed with it. I wheel my junk too.

I'm not on board with this coating being the cause of the rust but... Can anyone show me a toyota provided directive for frame care on a tacoma? I can't find one from toyota themselves.

If nobody can provide this instruction from toyota than op should reasonably expect his frame to be in good operating condition for a generally acceptable time. Toyota has clearly indicated that 12 years is that amount of time. Trade and move on our accept it for what it is beyond the 12 years.

I have to agree with some of the others.
The CRC likely didn’t cause the rust.
I’m not convinced the CRC does anything more than “buy you more time” before the frame rust.
Basically, it helps get you past the 12 year warranty. Then you are on your own.
    At last that’s my opinion.

The truth is, they will all rust.
Some faster than others, it all depends on the amount of preventative measures you put into it.

I’ll be the first to admit, I don’t do what I probably should.
I guess living in the Southern U.S. has me a bit spoiled. (And made me lazy on the preventative care)
