Can anyone recommend a shop in the CR/Marion area to install a lift? My brother took his truck to a shop in davenport, I'll go there if need be but would prefer to stay local. It's for my tundra but the regional section is dead on there.

I work too much, would just prefer to drop it off and have someone else do it. One of these days maybe I'll start working less...

We have an independent 4wd specific place here in Dubuque called Complete Off Road. They have been around a couple years now and I’ve heard good things from the Jeep crowd. Occasionally they have a Yota parked outside, I know they’ve tricked out a 40 series or 2.

Thanks guys for the input on the tires, I think I’m going with the Kendas for 2 reasons.

Price - Kenda $208ea ($1040 for 5) vs Falken $237 ($1185 for 5) and won't have to cut anything. I'm getting 5 so I have a full size spare, may look into seeing if I can get the cheapest 285/70r17 or 275/70r17 for the spare tire.

Make sure your spare is exactly the same as your other four brand tread at all. That way you can do five tire rotation and keep your stuff looking good and rolling smoothly

Yup, I've got a 5th FN Six Shooter. I got them a while back for insanely cheap. A set of 5, 4 with almost new all season tires and the 5th with a worn mud tire for $450. Sold the 4 tires for $300 so ended up with 5 FN Six Shooters for $150!!! Not the color I wanted so I plasti-dipped them bronze and threw my duratracs on.

Personally I’ve never been a fan of 5 tire rotations. Mainly because it just takes so much longer and I know I’ll forget where in rotation everything is. Lol I’ve only had a handful of customers request it in the past and overall you might get 5K more out of a set of tires. For me it doesn’t really make sense since My issue with tires is more of an age thing than mileage. I just don’t drive enough in my day to day to justify it. Now people who do 25k+ a year it might make a marginal difference.

I’ve always just rotated fwd and aft keeping them on the same side. This habit sprung from directional tires on other cars but also since it’s hard to get all 4 off the ground in a driveway. I’ve never really noticed much benefit of doing the X pattern. If there is, I’m sure it’s marginal. All personal preference.

If you barely drive the truck then your point is valid. Age will kill the tire before wear. However if you do drive the vehicle quite a bit, the x rotation makes more sense and, the five tire rotation makes even more sense. And you shouldn't have to remember where tires are if you follow the same pattern every time.

@CygnusX191 if we had Gerald’s kind of side hustle loot we wouldn’t care how long our tires lasted either

Didn’t mean to start a debate. Lol

When I worked at Toyota of Des Moines I would do any special customer requested tire rotation. If they did not specify then I did fwd>aft and aft>fwd.

When doing an X Pattern rotation you will get some tires noise for a couple hundred miles or so because the natural feathering of the tread going one direction for 5K miles (assuming 5K rotations). After changing the direction it will have have some noise because the tires are wearing into the new direction. This is more noticeable with AT tires due to the larger blocks in the tread.

We did the fwd>aft / aft>fwd to alleviate that issue. Some customers are very finicky and notice that tire noise thinking something is wrong. Even though the service writer explains to them what’s going on, it still concerns the customer sometimes. Remember, 99% of people don’t bother to know why or how something works. They just want it to work. We are a very small fraction of nerds that very useful but very boring facts to most people. Lol

For reference, I got my 2015 Tacoma with roughly 21k in early 2016 and this week when I filled the tank I had 54,233 miles. I have only driven 33k miles in the last 5 years or roughly 7k a year. Sadly no garage to keep it out of the elements yet either which takes a toll on tires as well. But that will change next year when we build a new house.

Sadly $500 doesn’t get ya far in truck tires anymore. Like toilet paper or lumber now. Haha

I’ve been doing the 5 tire rotation for the last 25k because the last thing I want is a brand new Duratrac for a spare when I ditch the other 4 for Falkens:thumbsup:
