Spark plug question

I just purchased the OEM Denso plugs at the dealership for the 3.4L V6 and the gaps on all of the plugs were 0.034". I've been reading conflicting information on what the gap should be. Some people say that the gap should be 0.044" on both prongs and some people say that it should be 0.022" on each side adding up to a total of 0.044".

Does anyone know definitively what it should be? Thanks.

Hmm that is strange indeed. At any rate, how do you normally gap yours?

 

They're pre-gapped out of the box, and you're not supposed to regap them. So, I don't.

 

Actually, I just looked at the plug and it's the correct denso number but the gap is different.

 

My experience is the plugs are pre gapped to .043” for the 5VZ-FE.

Thanks. For some reason my gap are all 0.034"....yes all 6 plugs from the dealer. I'm going to adjust the gap on each side to 0.043" as specified in the manual. I checked the part number on the plug and it matches what you all are using except the gap is super off. I verified this with two different sets of feeler gauges and come back with the same result.

 

This engine is what is called a wasted spark. You’ll notice that there are only 3 coils with a cable from each running over to the drivers side. It generates a spark on the exhaust stoke which is wasted. For that reason there are 2 electrodes to spark. The spark only hits the side which is closest. As that wears down it will hit the other side. It keeps doing this until the plug wears out. In theory it will last as long as a single electrode plug in a non-wasted spark engine. Gap both sides the same.
