The Weather in the Northwest has finally dried up so i decided last weekend and this weekend to visit some places I've always wanted to go, Mt Hood, and Mt. St Helen's. I've seen the South flank of the mountain but never have seen the Devastation and dramatic beauty of the North Flank. Since I love driving my truck so much, i decided what the heck, gas is finally cheap, and the weather is great. Even ran into some snow up by the Visitors center and tried out my RR Lock Diff, and it worked Great. So here are some photos

Panoramic shot with Mt. Adams to the left

What i think to be the most dramatic shot, and yes, those are the original trees that were blasted away by the eruption. This shot still gives me chills

To this day, the Bulge in the crater continues to grow

Awesome pictures! We used to live in Hillsboro, OR and the mountains/volcano's are of great beauty and photo ops as well. We flew over all of them just over a week ago out of Seattle and could see all the mountains from the Seattle area all the way down to Sisters.

Thanks guys, i really enjoyed my 1st visit to Mt St Helen's, the scene is breathtaking, dramatic and chilling, what's more chilling it's still very much active and still very dangerous! If you ever get a chance to visit, even if it's in the summer, it's worth the trip.

I think you put into pictures why so many of have these trucks, so we can go and see awesome things like that. Great post, I'm jealous I live on the east coast. Maybe someday I'll take a nice long road trip.

There are actually 10 volcano's in the northwest if you include Crater Lake. There' Crater Lake, the 3 sisters (i guess counts for 3 since there are 3 volcano's), Mt. Jefferson, Mt Hood, Mt Adams, Mt St. Helens, Mt. Rainier, and Mt. Baker. Mt Rainier, Mt. St. Helen's and 3 sisters are to be the most active to date and Crater Lake is the Most Dormant.
Here's a little history on Mt. St. Helen's, since the 1980 eruption the crater smoldered and grew at a slow rate, in 2004 the bulge began to grow 6ft a day then erupted in a small plume of ash, then in 2006 the bulge yet again grew to a point where it erupted again in a small eruption. Today the Mountain is said to be sleeping, the bulge has stopped growing at such a fast rate, tremors continue but nothing of concern. USGS predicts within 180 years the volcano's bulge will become the new mountain and is said to reach it's original height or Erupt in a large scale again before that.
The 3 sisters are said to be the 2nd most active area. The sisters are 3 volcano's that are said to be growing a 4th sister when USGS discovered a uplifting area near the south sister growing at a rapid rate. Giving then a reason to be concerned that the sisters are still active.

I have a Canon Digital Rebel EOS, 35mm-70mm lens and a 75-300mm lens, it's a good camera, but I'm thinking of upgrading to a XTI
