I have a Softopper that was on a DCSB for sale. Zipper stitching is starting to separate and just needs to be resewn but other than that in good condition. All hardware included

I've seen people run 3rd gen tops on 2nd gens for example

How easy is it to put on take off? I’ve been debating a bed cover for when we go to Niner games but I don’t want something permanent just something for the day so I can leave my bbq and a few other things in the bed and have some kind of deterrent to theft. I know it’s not the securest but if it makes a smash and grab think twice then it works.

 

The 2nd and 3rd gen softoppers can be interchanged with no issues. You are correct in terms of height though. Just a matter of preference but this is definitely a solid deal. I ran a 2nd gen topper on my 3rd, and I’ve seen a 3rd gen topper on a 2nd gen.

 

a bed cover is trash. They are $100-130 for a roll up on Amazon. Because why would you want any other style besides roll up (tri-fold, etc.)
it also means you have to open the whole thing to get things from the bed. With a softopper, you do not. You can just climb in from the back.
Softopper can open easily from the side.
And yes. It comes off quickly and easily. I have never tried the fold up function.
Because a softopper is taller, it can also fit more objects than a tonneau cover, if that is what you mean by bed cover.
And it can potentially be slept/camped in; a tonneau cover cannot.
I do think it is a deterrent. It hides things inside in a way that is not obvious. And might look difficult to open and whatnot to a random person who doesn't know what it is.
