I was wondering any Canadians could share the prices they paid for their truck cap.

I just had a quote, from an outfit in Edmonton, for a Leer 100XQ at 2588 + GST and the Leer100XL for 2283 + GST

I knew these things were not cheap but I didn't think they would put me back $2500 to $3000 with tax!!

    Anybody else have prices?

That sounds about right. I got my Leer XL from Raven Accessories, which my dealer negotiated.

Was quoted $2,000 from the dealer. The paperwork was all done before they got a full quote from Raven (which turned into about $2,500 if I remember correctly). The dealer ate that additional cost for me.

if you can swing it, head down to the U.S.

a guy i know on another forum lives on the ontario side near detroit, michigan, and buys almost everything (tires, rims, exhuast) on the us side cause its cheaper .... he just said if you do buy tires go mudding or something so they dont look super new

as for a shell i dont think there would be any way for them to figure out it wasnt on there when you came in.

I'll put a vote in for buying from the US. Everything seems cheaper down there.

Unfortunately, Edmonton is a bit of a drive from the border, which is why I didn't get my truck and cap from the US.

is it easy for you guys to import us vehicles? Apparently back in the 70s or so it wasnt bad for US folks to import canadain vehicles, but it isnt so these days, otherwise a lot of honda fanatics would be driving around in Acura EL's (basically a nice ass civic)

Keep checking Kijiji or take a drive south of the border. Found my hard cover(leer) on kijiji.

    x2, kijiji is great.

I picked up a mint 2008 Raider Vagabond in Edmonton last year a buddy of mine found on kijiji. Paid $550!

A person has to be patient with this route though.

I agree, the Kiijii or used might be the way to go. Having to pay $2000-$2500 for a topper only to see guys who have theirs a year selling them for 1/2 price or less does not make me want to buy new.

I might have to put up a want ad.

I got a price for the same Leer of $3300 in Surrey BC. I drove 1hour across the line and the price was $2200 I think, but they had one there that needed paint otherwise new so I got it home had it painted and got it on the truck for about $1800. 5'box.

I have to say though that the leer to me is a bit of a dissapointment in that the windows open only at the charity of the flexability of the glass and aluminum brackets bending and flexing. The rear door gskt doesn't touch the glass at the top though I may try shimming the hinge to pull the glass in a bit but that might not get it. The curve of the door glass doesn't match the curve of the canopy. It leaks at the front and a shot of silicone under the rail cap got most of it but it's still coming in somewhere. I'm sorry but for the money I expected more. My bad.

Hm, maybe that's why it was so cheap? I havn't had any problems with mine so far.

I got the XL which has the small push open window, and it doesn't bother me. They have another model that has half size sliding windows too.

I'm from Saskatoon and was quoted $2800 + tx for a top of the line snugtop. I moved to Victoria last summer and picked one up in Summerland BC (south of Kelowna) for $2400 taxes in. I bought it from Arrow Industries, I believe they are the main distributer for snugtop in Western Canada

I've been doing some calling around and it looks like for a Tacoma that most of the places have to special order them and are not too willing to move on price.

I did find a few places in Edmonton who has coupons for $100 - $150 (Buzz Boxliners, Raven).

I also found a place in Innisvail, AB. called Alberta Trailers (www.albertatrailers.ca) that has a large selection of used canopies but unfortunately they only had one for a Tacoma at this time (a model I wasn;t interested in).
