Is there a way for the average joe to track the production and shipping info for a special ordered Taco? I mean without bugging the dealership to do it? Thanks.

Probably not ...doubt the dealership will give you a exact date just a estimated date . Unfortunately they don’t track these kind of things like a fedex package . Just be glad they don’t deliver the truck like fedex lol . Best of luck .

If you have a VIN, you can go to Toyota's "Vehicle Specification" web site and get some information, including the date and place of assembly. (That will be a "dummy" VIN until the truck is actually built.) You should be able to get the VIN from the dealer.

In my case, since I knew that my truck was being assembled in Guanajuato, Mexico, I figured it would be loaded aboard a ship in Vera Cruz and unloaded in Newark, N.J. With those parameters, as well as a time window, I was able to go on shipping web sites and identify vehicle carrier ships traveling between those two ports. By a process of elimination, it turned out it was the "Prestige Ace" and I was able to track its location in real time.

Obviously this took some educated guesswork. The salesman at my dealer's was amazed that I knew more than he did.

Thanks. the dealership will give me their latest estimates but I don't want to bug them constantly. The reason I asked is because I'm hearing all kinds of rumors about chip shortages, some true, some untrue.

Thanks for that. I now have the actual VIN instead of the "dummy" VIN. I've also found out it was built on 4-27 at Baja. Will come by rail to Commerce, Ga then to the stealership.
