I've been hit more times than I can count, but the one in 2017 really made me think about my life choices.

So I was building my shed.

    20170406_134232.jpg

And I'm at the stage where I need to run conduit underneath the existing concrete and tie it to the house. My coworker gave me the genius suggestion of taking a length of pvc pipe and attaching my garden hose to it. Use the ensuing water jet to self-tunnel underneath the sidewalk. Then detach the hose, attach the conduit, and pull it through. Really was a smart idea.

    20170308_175747.jpg
Now I've worked around 120v many times, I've gotten stung many times. Usually because Id rather take the occasional hit when installing a ceiling fan or new electric outlet or whatever, than go through the trouble of shutting the breaker, doing partial install, turn breaker back on to verify operation, then back off to complete install. Ugh.

So as usual I was hooking into a live box, behind the gfci, of course. The major difference this time was that instead of standing on the ground or ladder wearing my insulated shoes, I was sitting on wet concrete, with absolutely nothing to insulate my wet ass from the earth except for a pair of levi's.

The shock I got that day, I felt for nearly a week. I don't think I even yelped, I just suddenly found myself on my feet, walking around in circles all jittery, like I was trying to do a 1980s slapstick comedy routine. I felt that one in my soul.

Backwards episode. I remember stumbling across this show in middle or high school, back when they started playing it at midnight/1AM on the weekends. That scene that I referenced above is what made me call my friends and say, "we gotta start staying up and watching this shit."

Once while cooking nude, on a worn out electric stove, my hand was on the stop top, my hot dog barely touched one of the knobs and lit me up, quite painful getting shocked there.

Hunting season and looking forward to getting a buck I’ve seen while cutting hay. Walk into my parents garage and notice an old milk scale (hanging scale with a hook) hanging from a nail. Wonder if it registers high enough to weigh a deer. Pull on the hook...50, 75, 100, up to 150 lbs when the nail it’s hanging on bends and I punch myself in the mouth with a rusty scale. Stoopid but no harm beyond a bloody lip.
Probably about 365 days later, walk into my parents garage and notice the old scale, grab on and pull until I punch myself in the mouth with a rusty scale again. It wasn’t until I was trying to butterfly my lip through a mustache that I start to think “this seems really familiar”
8 lip stitches and a scar to remind me not to be a dumbass.

I was around 16, pulling a steering wheel by planting my feet against the floorboards and pulling. Had the nut off -- still have the scar across the bridge of my nose.

I can share a story from an Elk hunting trip with my dad about 15 years ago. End of the night, getting ready for bed... dad goes outside the tent to brush his teeth. About 15 seconds later I hear "*^&^#^)^(!!!!!!!!!" Dad comes back in the tent, I ask "What happened?" He hands me the toothpaste tube and asks "What the hell is that??" I took it over near the Coleman lantern so I could see what it was........ tube of Ben-Gay. Not toothpaste.

This was due entirely to the very dim light in the tent, and my dad just grabbed a tube sitting on his clothes box, thinking it was toothpaste. It was an honest mistake, not really 100% in line with this thread's subject, but figured it was worth sharing.

Spent 20 minutes looking for pliers yesterday while doing some light installation on the truck. The pliers were in my pocket the whole time i was looking for them.

Wasabi comes in toothpaste tube form. I can't imagine what it would feel like having it stuck between your teeth and gums.
