Changing Oil in the Taco

So I did a video on changing the oil in the Taco. I'm not selling anything, debating oil change intervals, type of oil or anything like that. Just a complete vid on how someone can change the oil on one of these things for those that want to do it yourself.

the oil pan on my 16 is not exposed like the one in the video. i have to use a socket and accesses to the plug is thru a space on the under frame. when it is loose i stick my fingers thru the space and feel the plug and unscrew with my fingers until it falls into the bucket below. also my plug is just that a plug does not have the magnet rod thingy like in the vid.

 

The offroads have a second skid plate, very similar otherwise.

The magnet isnt standard, its aftermarket. Don't worry.

 

Thanks guys!!! I do appreciate that, and yup as @Bishop84 said that oil drain plug is an aftermarket one. I use them on all my vehicles as they are pretty cheap, and its interesting to see how some engines have more steel build up than others when you do an oil change. On the Taco there is very little as shown in the vid, so I think the machining on this engine is really good.

You realize less than 3% of the population change their own oil now and pretty much any high school guy can change it without a video right?

I finally got past my 'free' oil changes and I took to YouTube to learn. I'd always had the old twist off canister filters so I needed a little reassurance. I mean this truck doesn't have a transmission fluid dipstick and the cruise control slows down before I can tailgate close enough to send a message... What other crazy things have changed.

Thanks to good folks like op I learned oil changes aren't that much different.

Not the biggest fan of the oil change process on these trucks. Not that it's difficult, it just requires extra steps as compared to other vehicles I've changed the oil on. Removing the skid plate to expose the pan is a nuisance for one. I also much prefer the oil filters located on the top of the engine that way you don't have to work from under the truck on that too. The little plastic thing you have to plug in to drain the filter, etc.... Oh well. Good video.

Anyone use the Napa gold or Platinum filters? Any good? Im not a big fan of fram.

The engine, heads and most internals on these engines are Aluminum so even if there were a problem I doubt a magnetic oil drain plug would pick-up much LOL!

 

They are good. Wix I think, and made here. I get the Wix XP off rock-auto for around $10.

Napa Gold is made by Wix. Just knock the '5' off any Wix filter, and there you have a Napa Gold. Whodathunkit!
