Three questions on KDMAX6.0 LT for @PapaRee and @TWTaco. First off the tune is great. It shifts really well and has increased my long trip fuel economy close to 1mpg. I wanted to wait until I ran it for a while before I had any comments. I did a long trip Colorado to Arizona this past week. With 10-11 hours in the truck each way and a lot of different terrain I had a great opportunity to try a bunch of different things. I have two questions from all this. Both relate to shifting. I sent them this as a conversation as well, but am never sure I get that right. Was also hoping to hear the broader group as a whole

The first is the truck tends to delay wanting to go back to fifth after a long pull in fourth. Normally if I accelerate to pass the truck hits fourth if need be, then bumps back up through fifth and sixth. However, if I have a long grade where it is in fourth for several minutes (Verde Valley up to Flagstaff), you really have to work at it to get the truck to jump up to fifth. It will get there, but similar to pre-tune, I crest a hill, am losing elevation, but have to lose a lot of speed lifting my foot off the gas to get the truck to upshift. Again, this only happens on long pulls, regular in and out of fourth and fifth for short duration is really good.

The second question concerns cruise control. Again, CC is about 100 times better than stock so maybe my question is moot. If the truck really needs it will drop to fourth on a hill. However, it can at times not want to go back to fifth and stays in fourth for quite a while once I hit level. Here is where it gets interesting though. The first time it did this I decided to give it a little gas as I was getting ready to disable cruise. Foot just taps gas pedal and truck instantly upshifts to fifth. Thought maybe it was just ready to shift anyway so I tried this a few more times. Every time it worked. When it appears CC wants to hang in fourth for a bit a gentle throttle tap produces an immediate upshift. The only thing I can think that might cause this is as soon as I hit the throttle, I am bypassing the CC logic and am assuming the shift logic programming for the gas pedal is different than that of the cruise.

Hopefully someone has a couple bits of insight here. These are not really issues, but I was just wondering if others have noticed this.

One final question is the SLT version doing any shift logic changes other than throttle tip in. I like the way LT shifts, but tend to spin tires a lot in the dirt from a takeoff. I imagine in winter this might create a few surprises.

My experience. To make it shift to 5th in an incline after going 4th gear to pass someone, lighten your foot on the pedal and it will go to 5th. At keast mine does . I have the premium performance tune kdmax 6.0. pedal was touchy at first but my foot learned to adapt and now after 1400 miles it's perfect.
Edit. My bad, you're talking of cruise control. Wrong answer.

Thanks for posting your experience. I've been looking for more manual transmission reviews. Just a matter of time until I get this tune!

I can definitely relate to the throttle issue on downshifts. Prepare for downshift, clutch in, shift while simultaneously mashing the throttle to the floor while hoping the revs will be high enough to match the lower gear. Not ideal.

Going off the dyno numbers in another thread and my limited ability to perform maths, this tune has these trucks making over 300hp at the crank?

I have never Dyno'd my truck nor was I at the Dyno shops when they were done.
But, I think that is about right even on stock.

The tune is about Performance and Drivability.
The difference can be felt on the road driving. The best way to test the tune is to drive it!

I agree. If I get bored I may have mine dyno’ed as I’m just curious. Going off of the the fact that these engines are nudging at 300hp from from the factory, make over 300hp (NA) in other applications and the way my truck feels before and after the tune it feels like it’s at or above 300.

Is there an option if I get super charged? If I hang on to the truck long enough, when it came time for an engine rebuild I was going to super charge it. 33’s + 5.29’s + SC + tune = rocket ship.

So I just had @HCFR TACO22 do my tune in the Tampa area. And Victor is a hell of a nice guy. He went way out of his way to accommodate me and to meet me when and where I needed him to be. I have very limited time because of my travels and Saturday was the only time I could do it. Thank you so much Victor. I really appreciate it. The tuning/ flash went smooth. I’ll report back in a week or so of how I like it but the test drive was awesome.

I don't have a SuperCharger tune. And their tunes are understandably locked. So, you would have to use their tune.

I've noticed this since stock 2.0, except it happens to get "stuck" in 5th when it should upshift to 6th. Little tap on the throttle finally crests me over the upshift point and I'm back in business.

Just enough to start increasing RPM's is usually all I need. I can't speak for the KDMax tune, haven't ran it yet.

Even with KDM6 there’s lots going when getting back into 6 from 5. Headwind, slight incline, won’t do it without a bit of a press and back off (normal I think).

CC is a different animal and I haven’t tested that yet.

I’m not having any “issues” with KDM6 but was wondering if reseting the learned values would also reset the gas mileage computations to be the most favourable. I definitely don’t want to reset AT.

    @PapaRee ?
