Has anyone tinted their rear optional window yet? I have an appt next week Weds and I’m still debating on either 5% or 20%.

20% is pretty dark. I had it on a wagon. Since you can’t see out of it anyway you could go with either.

Yeah I've had 5% and 20% on all my vehicles I've ever had but I'm still unsure what percentage to go. But yeah you're right I can't really see out of it anyways so either or will work. I just want something keep prying eyes looking in at what I've got in there.

I'm a tint fanatic. For that rear window I'd go with 20 at the darkest. You won't be able to see out of 5% at night at all and not very well in the daytime. I pretty much tint everything 20, as in the day I buy it, with a 5% windshield strip so I never have to fold down a visor. That way all of my visors can serve their God given purpose of holding tons of crap like maps, napkins, etc.

I don't think they've got an official 'how long exactly' update for us yet from what I understand.

    none, yet!

Came down from riding at Sandy Ridge this morning and a SP parked right next to me, first time I've been up close to one and I was basically drooling. Took my sweet time getting ready to leave but never saw its owner to get the official tour but if this was any of you all - I'm curious to hear about your tailgate pad experience with the X1. I have the same exact Race Face pad as you and was likely going to switch to a vertical carry hitch rack.

Trying to be patient as I wait for an update on the supply delay to get mine built up! SO DANG EXCITED after seeing this one in the flesh.

Yah 20% is my max but prob go 35 in the front. I had an accident years ago and Miley was due to the tint and bad weather couldn’t see the other car.

Some things I've noticed about the SP from 5 camping trips since Mar on the Western Slope, CO ranging from 7500 ft to 10k ft elevation and overnight temps between 20s - 30s.
This is by far the most high speed camping outfit I've used/owned. The ability to keep gear and stand up to change in the canopy is nice. Things i could not do with a topper.

The vent awnings do help with condensation.

If you're a back sleeper, the wedge will block your toes.

The mattress is comfortable and does not deflate during the night, but I needed a couple layers of insulation/covers between me and the cold air in the mattress to be warm.

The wedge/over the cab is the coldest part of the tent.

I added a dog leash to the handle to help close the tent.

If bedding is kept in the tent, the mattress has to be deflated fully to latch the tent closed. Which involves rolling it like a sleeping bag to release the air; time consuming if you're in a hurry.

I may test the difference on the next outing by removing the air mattress and trying a mattress topper that i used to sleep with in the bed of the truck when I had a topper. Interested to see what the difference in comfort and latching the wedge will be.

I added 2 straps to the inside of the tailgate to close from the truck bed.

Something Spencer showed me is that you can stand on top of the tailgate when it is closed to get extra height when closing the tent. For some of you that will give you almost enough height to be able to grab the handle directly. I'm not tall enough for that, but it does take just one easy grab of fabric to pull it down rather than three while standing on the open tailgate. I might still add a short strap to the handle to make it easier.

I can close the tailgate easily from inside by just kneeling down and grabbing the tailgate with one hand while holding onto the top of the canopy opening with the other hand. Plenty of leverage and stability that way.

I tried storing bedding up on the mattress but didn't like the way it compressed my sleeping bag. As I've just been using that plus a blanket and a pillow, I just stuff those into the bag the Megamat came in and throw it down in the bed. Keeps that stuff clean and dry.

@whup, are you going to do anything for insulation inside for cold weather camping?

Getting closer to finishing my build, but it's taking forever with all the small things that don't quite work or fit. Lots of trips to home depot. Still waiting on a few key things to come in.

Latest issue was washing the truck the other day and then finding water in all the grooves under the bed mat. I think most of it came in through the front corners so I have some more work to do to get that sealed. After initially deciding not to I found cheap insulation sheets at home depot and decided to cut it up and put in the bed grooves. So having water in there is no beuno, especially since I plugged all the drain holes.

Will most likely go with the bottom configuration. They’re 100W Renogy flexible panels in case you guys ask lol!

Had a shake down trip this weekend in preparation for the 2.5 week Baja trip.

    Few things I noted:
    • Figure out how to reduce condensation
      • I didn’t have much of the vents open so I’ll have to do more testing and open them all.
    • My latches are quite hard to close. Trying to figure out why and if it’s related to the way I pack the tent.
    • How do you guys pack the tent ? With the doors closed I get them pinched. I leave them open and tuck but still have a hard time closing the wedge. Maybe need to remove more air from mattress.
    • Wonder why there is no zipper on the window tailgate side.
    • Full size bed sheet works great
    • Best thing about the side doors are if you have a swing out. Much faster than opening swing out.
    • It kept all the mud out. I actually had very little dust inside but then again, my bed area is pretty dirty so maybe I just don’t see it lol.
    • I love the two panels that I use as a table/night stand but do think my feet get close to the wedge and touch. Can’t have it all.
Got a lot of questions about the camper while I was out. Even had a nice vagabond guy ask if it was a gfc. He was on his vagabonds first trip.

PS: If you can avoid having ur tires extend outside your fender flares... do it. Mud everywhere but gotta clear the shock relocations. Rip.

Opening vents will definitely help with condensation. I usually unzip the side windows and back window along the bottom too.

I started having trouble closing/opening the blue latches during my trip home. Not related to too much stuff inside. Sprayed some WD40 and they have been smooth since. Occasionally they are out of alignment with the hardware on the bottom and I have to push the top half laterally to get them to close.

When I close the tent I find I have to have the side windows zipped up completely, both sides and bottom. Otherwise I can't tuck the edges in enough from the back of the truck so they hang over the edge of the rail. This isn't a problem when it's all zipped up. As long as I let a bit of air out of the pad I usually don't have any trouble closing the tent. Just tuck in the sides, then the back, then re-tuck the sides and back. Then click the blue latches. I don't leave my bedding up there. I just stuff that in the Megamat bag and put it down below.

okay great! I’ll look closely at the blue latches and assess.
Seems like everyone has an easier time closing the tent lol. If I keep my doors closed , the black flaps always overhang the rails due to length but also cus air pushes material outwards.
When I keep them open, I tuck material inside the tent then close. Much easier but still hard to shut the wedge. Extrusion deflects so something is in the way. Think I need to deflate mattress more.

I usually just open the escape valve while I am sitting on the mattress, then lay back and let air escape. Then close the valve. It doesn't let a ton of air out but might soften it enough to allow the tent to close easier.

I know what you mean about the black side flaps. Sometimes they stick out. I find if I tuck the side material in further it usually pulls those flaps in enough. Unless I have the side zippers open, then I can't get the corners of the window to pull in. That's why I close the side windows fully.

FWIW, with the blue latches I was having trouble getting them open as well as getting them closed. Before I put the WD40 on them I couldn't pop them open at all by hand. Had to stick a lever in to pop them out.

My experience so far with closing the tent has been really good. I leave the outlet open on the mattress and usually leave the rear door open to let air out. So far with a little weight pushing down on the top my latches engage easily. I have yet to have them misaligned, and the fabric at the front tucks it’s self really well. Unlike the GFC I don’t have to get down to tuck fabric.

I tuck/judo chop the material on either side first and then the back. Leave the sides unzipped about 6' for air exit and the mattress deflation valve open.

I've also had issues with unalignment of the latches, difficulty latching and opening. I've had to use my pocket knife as leverage a couple of times to open and have had my wife hang from the camper to help close. That is the reason I wanted to remove the air mattress to see if that would make a differrnce.

I've also since started carrying a small bottle of wd-40 to spray the latches and boom, no latch problems. I was thinking the latch paint may be the culprit?

I took the mattresses and all the bedding out yesterday and tried to close to compare, thinking it would be easy, nope, wouldnt latch at all, had to break out the wd-40.

Hmm... I used WD40 on it once and it's been smooth as butter ever since. Don't have to use any force to engage or disengage the latch. Sometimes I do have to put a lot of weight on the tent to get it down enough I can engage the latch, but then its an easy smooth satisfying "clunk".
