Recommendations for rifle in 308?

 

Leaning towards semi but a nice bolt would work as well. Would like to stay under 1500 maybe more for the right gun. Mostly will use for hunting but want to get into some longer range shooting

Ruger American Predator. Still leaves you plenty of money for really nice glass.

 

I think Bergaras are around a grand I hear nothing but good things about them

 

Just last month picked up a CZ 557 Varmint for ~ mid $800. Havent shot yet but its a beaut...looking for a nice optic.

Finished up another little project for my Sig 556. Wanted to swap from my Holosun HS510 to the smaller 507c to gain some room around the charging handle. I would occasionally drag my knuckles when getting frisky while racking it. Not a huge deal but also just wanted something with a little smaller footprint regardless. The 507c was a little too short for my flip up irons to sight through as backups.. and other risers/spacers out there raised it too much where the irons were too low. I needed something with a specific height (.530") for me to be able to use irons through the Holosun, and needed the Holosun to still be at a useable height for my magnifier. Took all the measurements and modeled it up. 3D printed a prototype to check if the height would work. Then machined from 6061. Made locating Counterbores on the bottom side to locate onto the Holosun 1913 mount.. and Bosses on the top side to locate the Holosun. Sandblasted and then engraved my little logo thing on both sides. Picked up Longer hardware and sighted it in over the weekend. Mucho better!!



Picked up an extra used charging handle too to mess with. Wanting to extend and angle downwards some.. and add a knurled knob.

Ah, never had one in my hand so that is interesting

 

I'm sure it isn't what you are looking for, but, I have a Browning A-Bolt in .308 and love it. I haven't shot it over 300 yards but it is plenty accurate and a plleasure to shoot it is my favorite rifle to hunt with. Pretty much point, click, and drag it to the truck.
