Is there an app or any other way to locate your Tacoma (using the VIN) during shipping?
I tried the Toyota app but it requires activation confirmation from the vehicle itself. Thanks in advance.

If your Tacoma is being shipped using an actual ship (for example, from Guanajuato, Mexico, to the east coast of the U.S.), you can track the ship in real time using a variety of shipping web pages. (First you need to determine which ship it's on, but that's not difficult with some educated guesswork.) I was able to do this for mine.

It was built in Baja on April 27 & will ship to the Toyota prep center in Commerce, Ga by rail, then to the dealer. I thought it would be interesting to see where it currently is. For all I know, it could be parked in a transit yard somewhere.

    USPS ships trucks? Who knew?
    I'm gonna try anyway.

They say it was returned to sender because my mailbox was too small.

The "transit yard" is indeed a thing when ships are involved. Vehicle carriers take on thousands of vehicles at a time, and they don't sail until they are more or less full. My Tacoma sat at the port of Vera Cruz for a couple of weeks.

Shipments by rail don't have this problem. They just load the railcars rather quickly.

Copy that. Back in 2014, this buddy of mine ordered a new Corvette and Chevrolet had a system where he could track it through production (pre-assembly, assembly, testing, quality control, shipping, etc.) via a status number. Then when it left the plant it could be tracked by GPS during shipping. In todays information times, I'd think Toyota would have something like that.
