    Hello there!

Looking at the distributor on my 1995 2.7, I can't seem to find it and Google keeps pointing me towards coil-on-plug parts which this engine does not have. I can't find it on the wheel wells and there's no plug wire at the center of the distributor either. Is the coil built into the distributor on this engine?

    Thanks for your time!

There is no coil you have a igniter and your distributor .

the coil is combined in the distributor looking nothing like the round cylinder your thinking of.

The igniter should be on the right inner fender been a few years since I had one in front of me

Thank you both so much for the help! @Wyoming09 , does this mean that it's something you wouldn't replace/upgrade like a traditional coil? Just leave it alone if you've got spark?

Myself if it is not broke don`t mess with it.

Different story if your putting a few thousand in the engine.

then want to have all new parts.

Thank you again. The situation is that this is a half mil mile truck with a neglected replacement engine that my son-in-law uses as his daily. He's started suffering slow start when hot and I'm trying to help him to just get the truck as right as we can for him and I'm at a bit of a loss with this engine as to what's expected in a refresh/tune up. My current list for him is:

    cap
    rotor
    wires
    plugs
    fuel filter
    air filter
    ventilation valve
    oil and filter
    fuel system treatment(injector cleaner)
    seafoam(for intake system)
    marvel (for oil system treatment)

He's also got two codes that we're trying to figure out:
0420 - Cat system efficiency below threshold bank 1
0510 - Closed Throttle Position Switch malfunction

My intention is to do the tune up, clear codes and see where we stand for those before continuing. After, I was going to check resistance on the o2 sensor and I haven't looked into the tps error yet so I'm not sure what we'll try there yet.

For an engine with high but unknown mileage, is there anything else you can think of that we should be doing for trying to maximize mileage and improve performance?

    Thanks!

first things first on high mileage engine. check compression. if good or at least consistent on all and within 80% of spec then do what you have listed
