What are most folks running for comms? I've been going out with a 4wd group recently and everyone seems split on CB or GMRS. Is there something else I should be looking at bolting onto my truck?

EDIT: I don't have the brains or time to get a HAM license before we get out there...

Last year most of us used baofengs on the FRS/GMRS channels.

Well, I grew up in GA and I've got a hell of sooie, so that'll work.

I am a complete noob when it comes to radios. I bought some of these cheapies last year, they'll work on these FRS frequencies, right?
    https://www.retevis.com/RT15-FRS-Mini-business-radio#A9144AX1

Everything I've ready about Baofeng always points to them requiring FCC licensing to use "properly". I've personally witnessed what the FCC fines for unlicensed usage, not interested in getting caught up in that.

I've got a pair of these Cobra MicroTalk radios I'd be happy to loan out for the duration of the trip. I've only used them a couple of times but they have worked flawlessly thus far.

Yes I think they will work. I have some cheap walkie talkies that work with the baofengs on those channels listed.

I have two handheld GMRS radios and a Baofeng. I can lend out some of those. I have none of the licenses. Are they going to chase me down on the WABDR to fine me? Don't think so.

Almost thawed. This was FS 1500/Bethel Ridge Road on 01 May. Probably 1/2 mile after the switchbacks. Super wet/dense snow that was surprisingly difficult. Only one highly modified side-by-side made it passed here. Fun time though, we ended up camping back at Tieton Pond watching an osprey fish for the evening.

Off topic but trying to revive this thread as well. I'm headed to Ape Caves and looking for some dispersed camping. All the ideas I goggle are from 10+ years ago. Any suggestions?

I'll have the teardrop trailer but that's capable and I'll have a friend with a stock, older 4runner.

Beaver Bay Campground is the closest "campground" in that area that I could find

Good head lamp and a waterproof rain jacket are my two pieces of advice....or bring the nods....that would be cool
