The paperwork and time at the border are greatly reduced after a vehicle reaches a certain age. It’s been awhile since I’ve looked into it but something around 10 years I think?

    2017 Tacoma OR 4x4 (formerly a 1998 SR5 PU, 2002 OR 4x4, 1995 4x4 4Runner, 1985 4x4 Toy PU) ... and RIP’s (rust in pieces) to a Bronco II 4x4 & S10 Blazer 4x4
I don’t know, I think it’s a lot more people who need all that stuff, especially all those people who offroad at the mall. They should all get hilifts, big tires, skids and sliders, lifts, lockers and CC to offroad safely and keep from getting stuck...

but then some of them got that stuff and still manage to get stuck.

    Change the suspension!

Get the OEM Toyota TRD OR Bilsteins or 4600's. If you want to go big get the 5100's.

I had premature shock wear and sag on the stock shocks that come on the non OR models.

I use locker I. 2wd all the time. Going down the trail and a section gets slightly to hard for 2wd I just flip on the locker for a second. And the epic cookies too. Lol

Interesting, why not just throw it in 4x4, it’s a bit safer IMO.

Factory locker is nice when you need it, but chances are you'll need the extra bed space more often.

    Like, so many.
Before I had my OR I had a Sport and I off roaded with it just fine. The tires are the biggest drawback, so get those swapped out. Also, pull the air dam and put on a recovery point from an OR. You’ll be good to go.

Not if I'm remembering correctly but doesn't the off road also come with a larger rear?

I‘ve used CC in similar settings as well as the locker in heavy powder. Add me to the 1%

Just quicker with the locker if it's not a difficult section. Flip the switch and instant go. If it's anything hard I'll 4wd it but usually no need

Yes it does get the beefier 8.75" Rear Diff, however if you get a MT in the Sport you will also get it. Also back in 2016 and 2017 when the 4 banger had a 5 Speed MT option, it also came with the larger rear diff.

But you cant get a long bed in MT and that is his main debate here.

Right I understand, but I was responding to a Post that was asking if there was a difference in the rear diff.

Really helpful thread. British Columbia resident, wanting a double cab, long box so a Sport is my only option.
Wasn't sure if a Sport will take me into the Forest Service Roads that I want to travel to fish. Feeling more comfortable that yes it will, more so with some mods.

Not sure if you're in the US or Canada or referring only to the OR, but you can get a long bed MT Sport in the US. It is the only way to get an access cab with a manual in fact and the reason I have a Sport not an OR.

Well. Access cab aside. I guess I should had said DCLB vs DCSB. I usually don't include the AC because they are not as common or desired to the normal folk
