It's a little pricey at about a G new, but an ARB/dometic fridge will be life changing if you spend a fair amount of time outside. Plus no melting ice and soggy sandwiches is a thing of glory. Not to mention on trail otter pops!

You can occasionally find older models or sales to keep the price lower too. I bought mine second hand off a TW member and couldn't be happier!

Underrated mod in the smaller dollar category! Great idea.

The KDMAX tune is amazing. Would 10/10 recommend for a $300 option.

Another higher end option to look at would be a good paint correction and ceramic coating over the whole truck. I had a guy in my area quote me a little over a grand for it. Make sure the company or person who does it is reputable and isn't selling you a low quality ceramic coat, so do lots of research. A ceramic coat helps protect the paint and keeps the truck looking good. I would definitely ask before going and having something like that done; though, I would also ask in general to make sure you get him exactly what he wants.

As a side note, I have not had my truck ceramic coated yet due to the fact that I plan on getting different fenders, a hood, and front and rear bumpers, so I would also ask about that as well.

N2 Designs makes one, but I'm not 100% sure how they work. I would assume you have to leave the truck in neutral with the Parking brake on. I haven't looked into a whole lot for mine, so I can't speak on it too much.

I love my Lomax trifold bed cover. I get compliments on it often. It works great.

This is more like it, the easy low hanging fruit that requires little to no installation.

You could also consider, if he doesn’t have them already, various kit items for off roading. Deflate tool with gauge, portable air compressor, snatch strap and shackles, MAXTRAX recovery boards, portable tool kit, tire repair kit....

Of these, the boards would be the sexiest and priciest and unless he’s got them or similar he’s gonna be thrilled. And if he doesn’t want them I’ll take em!

Other ideas, if you guys camp frequently, would be all the potential accoutrements from cooking to sleeping to camp comfort and so on and so forth. RTT? I see the frame so he likely already has one but had to say it out loud.

Also could you please speak to my wife and inform her of this tradition of buying the husband some truck stuff? She’s not in the know yet.

LoL! Find me a group she's in and I will sneak in and plant the seed there! <3 He has recovery boards and we do have come great camping gear. The deflate tool and portable air compressor sounds like something he needs. I think he's borrowed his friend's before. Thank you! I know he really wants one of those Garmin gps things that allows text messaging in remote areas. He keeps telling me that it isn't worth the money though because of the yearly payments for it.

I've got a buddy over here in Seattle that did remote start on his manual truck. He has some sort of kill switch so it won't accidentally start if it is in gear. He does car audio and alarm stuff so I'm sure it's not just a simple plug and play kit like the A/T trucks.

A handheld GPS would be a great gift (it’s on my list too) but so would a set of handheld GPS-enabled push to talk radios.

No one would NOT like the tailgate lock... You can get this from Toyota - (even from the dealer  ) - This would be a great gift AND it is a complete necessity!

If you are looking for something more; if you do not have them, you can pair these up with the bed lights...

The rock rails (sidesteps) are great - but for these, you might want to see what he likes... (Some are heavy, some are flimsy, and some are just ugly!)

    OP,

Since you have a tent and you like to camp, I'll go in a different direction. Things that you can both enjoy together using the truck while camping. Just some food for thought:

    1) Tailgate panel. This one is from Mountain Hatch but there are many others. Combine this with a new camping stove or some new camp kitchenware and that is a nice little package:
    https://mountainhatch.org/products/mountain-hatch-for-2005-2020-toyota-tacoma

    2) Awning in two camping chairs. Awning attaches to the truck and you have a nice two chair set up for camping comfort. This is from ARB but there are plenty others. Can easily attach to his roof rack:
    https://arbusa.com/tents-awnings-camping/awnings-accessories/

    3) A recovery kit, a decent ax and a decent shovel would be a nice package, too. This is just an example but you get the idea:
    https://www.amazon.com/ARB-RK9US-Premium-Recovery-Kit/dp/B004P9C5ZA

One idea is to think about things that are accessories for an activity that you both enjoy. That way, if he wants sliders or things that are more substantial he can pick those out.

Hope that helps and best of luck to you. Please report back on what you decide! :)

The Toyota OEM power tailgate lock is available from Toyota and the cost is about the same.
