During testing a few months ago, I was averaging 17mpg, I then had to reset LV and AT to check something, my mileage went down, but now it is finally back up to 17mpg. It took a few tanks to get back to normal.
I am not sure if just resetting LV would help or hurt the MPG's. But it was recommended in the past if your MPG's went down after flashing a new tune.

Is the KDMax detectable by a dealer? I think I saw OV wasn’t but haven’t gotten a firm answer.

I’m very interested in it after coming from a 3 series, I know it’s not a sports car but damn the transmission makes me angry sometimes. Hoping a tune livens it up.

Tks. I think I’ll leave it for a couple of tanks because it did improve slightly over the “wife tip” tune. Perhaps it will continue. If not I’ll then try resetting the LV. Can’t hurt.

It will identify as the stock tune at the dealership.
I too had a 3 series before my truck and a 2nd gen Tacoma---- the tune does make this truck fun to drive again!

How is it possible for it to show up as a stock tune?

It they hook up to your truck with techstream, which is the program that the dealers use, it will show the ECU as the stock ID. That is how Ovtune set it up.

So you’re saying that if I took the truck to the dealer after getting this tune, that it wouldn’t throw any flags as far as a warranty is concerned?

    Right.
I brought mine in for the timing cover oil leak repair under warranty. When I picked it up the guy said "man, your truck runs good, it is quick!"

In layman terms, imagine that a person had Lasik eye surgery.
At a glance, they look like they have perfect vision, since no glasses or contacts.
You'll need to do an autopsy to see, under microscope, the laser marks..
For a regular dealership visit, the tools that the dealership use render the tune undetectable, mostly because Toyota is been using the same platform for 6 years, and it was probably designed another 4-5 years before that.
If however you need major work done under warranty(replace engine/transmission), my advice is yo have a stock file flashed into your truck before filing a claim for warranty work.
I tuned my truck as soon as the tune fir the 2021 became available and I have extended warranty.
I'm doing my best to explain 20 years of research in tuning by using every day examples, so if there's any optometrist trying to split hairs, please don't, I'm not a doctor.
    Cheers!

Back in 2017 I had an OVTune (v1.04) on my 2017 TRDOR and my ECU ID was 04B03 then.
I took it to the dealer with the tune installed and they updated me with the TSB for 04B04.
So, they literally operated directly on my ECU and had not a clue I was running an OVTune.
Got updated to 04B04 then installed the latest OVTune at the time (1.04r).

The dealer literally will not know unless you tell them. Period.

Today was the first longer trip since I flashed the premiumLT tune about a month ago for a mostly stock truck. I must say it’s a big improvement from both stock and ovtune 2.0. I find that my personal truck drives better with the ECT button pushed especially on our Louisiana interstates. It does downshift from 6th to 5th for overpasses but it’s not noticeable unless I’m looking at the tach.
The cruise control is useable now. I’m a very pleased with the tune.
This drive was about half interstate w a speed around 75-77 and the other half mixed city and hwy driving.

@PapaRee, big THANK YOU for this tune. I got with @wahoobie yesterday and he flashed my truck with the KDMax 6 SLT. I couldn't be happier, all my hesitation and shifting issues I've experienced over the last year and 10,000 miles are GONE!!!! YOU ROCK!!!!

good info. Other manufacturers like VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) seem to use more sophisticated systems that are able to detect it. Mostly through a count that can not be adjusted. Basically the dealer plugs in and that is registered in their system with an ID. Next time it’s plugged in the system knows what the count and ID should be and if it doesn’t match they know it’s been tampered with. Good to know Toyota doesn’t have these abilities.
