Sounds like you can go to either side. The wires on the driver's side do the same thing. One press...only driver's door is unlocked / 2 presses, all doors and (now) the tailgate are unlocked.

Many ways to add up to 10....I used 1+9, some use 3+7 and some use 5+5. Don't matter as long as it works. Good job to all that have or will do this project :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Exactly, it doesn't matter what side you go to. The tailgate should unlock with the passenger doors.

Got a question for you since you bought this ... they also offer these to go with the kit

    EXTRA ADD-ON:

1x - OEM Tailgate Dual Wire Harness Bezel

2x - OEM Tailgate Dual Wire Harness Bezel

Did you order them to ?? And what the heck are they ... I messaged the owner but really didn’t help

FWIW - I purchase the Pace Edwards Powergate LK410 to install on my 2008 Tacoma Prerunner based on this thread. It is billed to fit *all* Tacomas 2005-2015, but upon installation found out that it requires the handle assembly with the backup camera. I spoke with Pace Edwards and tech support seemed to be dumbfounded by this. I am returning and ordered the dynolock to tryout.

Pop and Lock and Dyno have options for with or without camera. Does PE not have the same? Looking at the Amazon link, the picture shows no camera and the description doesn't specify, so I don't think you're at fault. Glad you're getting it swapped out

I am getting a full refund including shipping both ways. Pace Edwards didn't seem to care on the matter making the comment that the product doesn't sell much units. Excerpt below from the installation directions (my bold) :

    "PowerGate LK410 Unit

With the tailgate open, remove the inside panel of the tailgate by removing the 15 screws with a T-30 Torx head screwdriver. Notice the handle, the two screws that hold the handle in place and the rods that are attached to the latches on each end of the gate. Rotate the plastic clips (holding the rods) about 90 degrees and pull out the rod ends. Use a 10mm socket and remove the screw on the drivers side that attaches the handle to the tailgate and the screw at about the midpoint of the handle assembly that secures the camera accessory."

Hmmmm...I'm trying to think back to when I put mine in....I don't think it would have mattered if I had a camera or not, with a P&L. The unit just bolts to the drivers side bolt (If I remember right), and when actuated, the solenoid throws a row out in the way of the handle mechanism.

    Granted it's been a while (6 or 8 months I think) and I'm getting old and forgetful :) .

Whether or not it could be "made to work", it's always better to get the right product for your situation...in my opinion. Hopefully you have better luck with the Dyno

So I currently have a P&L tailgate handle with the key. I’m looking at doing the power lock actuator mod. Is there any reason why doing the actuator would interfere with the key use? I’m going over this on my head and it should work right? It’d just be nice to have the key as a backup method.

I think you could but I'm not sure it would be a "backup". I've had both, although not at the same time...and if I remember right, even if you unlocked the manual key, you'd still have to hit the electric lock to move the locking bar out of the way, so the handle would move.

If you're worried about the electric lock malfunctioning, look for the "paracord" mod earlier in this thread.

If you want to have both, then by all means...double security....sorta. But like I said, IF I remember right...it wouldn't be an either/or situation...it would be both if you want to open the tailgate at all.

    Sounds like no solid solution.
I'll stick with locking the TG with the key.

I ended up going back to the oem handle and added the P&L 8521. I forgot how much nicer the oem handle is. The lock works great. To help with the single bolt on the bracket, I added an additional aluminum support bar.

    10 years later.....

I am doing the install and my brain hurts.

It sounds to me like you avoided the engine bay completely, but I could be wrong. Where did you get power? Maybe you got power from the fuse under the hood and ran wires back down to the driver's seat grommet to avoid going through the firewall. Now that I write it out, I think that's what you did. Do you have any photos or a detailed description of where you mounted the relay and got power from for my little brain?

    Thank you!

What exactly are you installing? Power is supplied from the wiring thats spliced into. I used the passenger side so the tailgate lock works on the second fob press with all other doors.

Pace Edwards Powergate LK410 has a relay. I think the kit is needlessly complicated.

The red and black wires with fuse: you're instructed to connect to the positive and negative of the fuse box.

purple and grey: get tapped to the truck

Green and blue: go to the lock in the tailgate.

That is needlessly complicated, as you said. I didn't go into the engine bay at all. Power comes from the blue/black and blue/red wires next to the drivers seat

Thanks @christian06, it too bad you don't know what you are talking about when you speak about on our products. We have tested our products and have many tailgate saves mentioned and pictured on the forms and Amazon. I personally have never bashed any other product because people make choices based on their budget and comfort level. I have always commented on your product even though you took the idea from the official Gate Keeper and just made the metal thicker.

I would just drill out the screw holding your lock on and it would take less than 45 seconds to get the tailgate.

But I can assure any forum member here our products are NOT easily broken open with a screw driver, and no metal stands a chance against the power of the tweeker.

I never meant to bash on your prodect, I was talking about the factory tailgate lock, it is very easily overcome, if I said anything bad about your product, I apologize for doing so, it wasn't intentional by any means, once again I'm sorry for bashing your product and hurting your feelings. I did get my idea from the gate keeper, it's a thin piece of crap that don't work, it's like any other product that some one has improved upon, otherwise we would all be driving model T's.
    Once again, my apologies.
    Cheers my friend.

I also have one of these. Been on for 8 years or so, works great. That, along with the tonneau cover and hose clamp mod, makes it all pretty secure.

It all good no feelings hurt, Just want to make sure that when people miss-inform others and reference our lock in the same statement I will call it out. looking at the post It was specific to our lock and I did not see anything about the stock lock but whatever. I think we are on the same page now.

    Cheers
