Here's the thing, that's the exception, not the rule. How many other mass shooting events in a supermarket have happened? If you fear that a mass shooter will show up in your local grocery store and need to CC to feel safe you're either living in the wrong area or living in fear of something that statistically is not going to happen.....

Also, what is your training regimen? How often do you shoot? Do you just go to the range and shoot at paper targets or do you train for live situations?

Last training session my buddies and I did we ran, did some exercises to get our heart rate cranking and then fired from different positions to try to simulate scenarios. It's a whole different situation when your adrenaline is pumping.

While I understand the initial reactionary logic, even if you were there and were equipped with a firearm there’s still a fairly small chance you would be able to positively impact that outcome. You don’t know in advance that there’s a shooter. If you’re close enough to react you may also be close enough to be shot before you can fully react, draw, assess, aim and fire. If you can fire, do you potentially injure or kill bystanders? If you’re not near the shooter initially are you going to go seek out and hunt down the shooter? How will law enforcement then know you’re a good guy? How well trained and prepared are you?

If you have the necessary mindset to go into scenarios like this and be effective, you’re also going to endure significant mental strain, and it’ll detract from your ability to enjoy life. It’ll impact your relationship with people you care about.

These are some of the reasons I don’t carry currently. Because when you really examine the situation, unless the threat level is consistently high enough to merit it, you sacrifice a lot unnecessarily in order to carry and be potentially effective with a firearm. And if you’re not thinking through all of this in advance, and training to it, in detail, having that weapon on you may not do much good anyway.

That may be the case, but I'm not about to be caught off guard if I get caught in that 0.000000001% chance occurrence. I'm sure the people who were there that day didn't think they might not come home from the grocery store. Anything can happen at any time and I'd rather be prepared.

I love this. I carry, but only to take care of me and my family. The first option is always run/hide. Return fire is the last option.

this logic is a fallacy and only seems to be used to shame another into why they chose/choose to carry. you cannot dictate or predict where or when another public shooting will occur. to be prepared regardless of the situation is more common sense than acting like the area you're in is somehow free of opportunity.

So based on your logic we should all wear PFDs as well in case there's a flash flood while being out and about.

Everyone's acceptable risk tolerance is different. As a gun owner I find that most of those who OC and CC have a threshold that is extremely low based on fear and not probability.

The fact that the majority do little to no training only shows that they really aren't serious about being prepared.

again, you pose judgement on others calling it fear based carry. you choose to carry or not based on your life experience. others will choose to based on theirs. it's not for you to judge. if someone wants to wear floaties because of deep water crossing during a flash flood, then go ahead. i have no opinion on how they choose to live their life. you want to pick and choose when to carry or not based on region or building type, that's your choice. i carry at all times. as i sit at home working from home, i am carrying.

Here's my question. You're at home and carrying, why? I have firearms accessible but no need to carry at home. If you do it because you can great but carrying also potentially increases any chance of an AD.

Also, do you train for situations where you will need to use it? If so how often? How do you drill?

in the event of a potential break-in attempt, what good does a weapon that is stored away do for you? the likely hood is that a safe storage device slows your ability to respond.

while i owe you no explanation, i do. weekly. like i said, i'm at home all day. i dry fire and perform draws.

Why? Unless you are one with the force and know exactly when shit's gonna go south, you really don't know what the situation is going to be. 5 minutes from home or 5 hours from home. Curious? On a five minute drive to the grocery store, do you buckle up? If so, why?

Risk of an accident in a car is significantly higher in a moving vehicle than an active shooter at the grocery store.

Your analogy would make more sense if you were asking me to wear my seatbelt while sitting in a non-moving, non-started car in my driveway......

Your logic, if you can call it that, would make more sense if you actually had the ability to determine is if and when shit's gonna go south.

I base my decision not to carry every day on logic. If I have to go somewhere sketchy, or carry a large amount of cash for a purchase with someone I don't know then I will. The odds of something going south (car jacking, mugging, etc.) in a rough area are exponentially higher than a mass shooting at the grocery store or a restaurant.
