Electric Tacoma coming

60% over how many years? All cars won't be charging at the exact same time and pull just a clothes dryer amount of electric if charged at home. The infrastructure bill will help with this need and doesn't have to be done overnight. This is just a start. Someone has to start it, the previous administrations didn't or were blocked doing it.

 

The market is clear and the change is inevitable. It's just not an overnight circumstance and those that are driving their ICE cars now will still be able to buy them if not new than used or fix the one they have. I will keep my 96 Land Cruiser until I die. But I plan to buy an EV one day. The tech is still evolving and will continue to.

 

60 percent would need to happen starting next year until 2030. And the infrastructure bill as it sits will not pass.


And to edit, many people still want loud throaty v12s that are N/A and get 45 mpg.

It's already starting . Tesla sales are at all time highs , solar installations are going way up. Just the pre orders for the cyber truck alone are 1/2 million so far...

From here in San Diego it's insane how many people have solar on their roofs and how many damn Teslas are out there.

 

They can have it. noone i saying they can't. If they can't buy new buy used. Not a problem

 

1) Yep, it was hard to switch from horses to cars too. Things that are hard shouldn't necessarily be avoided.
2) We can't produce fossil fuels when the grid fails.
3) You drive to be as light as possible on the environment? What if that becomes electric?

Personally, if I have a choice, I will choose the Tacoma that has more HP, more torque, more speed, less maintenance and less cost. If it is fossil fuel, then that is my choice, if it is electric, that is my choice.

 

CA forced the market. You really should not compare the wants of the rest of the country to what happens in CA. The ongoing exodus from there really shows that. In regards to solar panels, Its also a fair weather state barring the natural disasters, so those make sense. Onto the cyber truck, Pre orders mean nothing compared to actual sales. And I really like tesla and Elon, but the sales are up- That's a joke. Sales are up lol. compare them to any other major automaker.

What I'd really like to see them do is put solar panels over the CA aqueduct. It's a smart idea in that it will help with evaporation and it's huge and you could put a ton of solar panels on it.

Uh, I don't know about your guys' stock portfolios but mine have made A LOT of money from EV tech. The market has already spoken in my opinion.

 

I never hear them until they pass so it’s only if I catch them in a side mirror and see them. Since they usually go significantly faster than the cars they pass, disappearing frequently, I’d have to favor my side mirrors over the vehicle in front of me to have even a 33% chance of noticing them in time. It’s not just attentiveness, you’re counting on dumb luck as well. Getting back to ev’s though, I was riding in a Tesla with traffic radar and it misplaced a full size van by an entire lane so it wouldn’t surprise me if new cars with auto drive and single button lane changing misplace a Moto or two.

 

It’s called leading the way as opposed to living in denial. Promoting solar is a far cry from forcing it but what’s funny is decrying solar while at the same time talking about the aging grid. Losing half the power generated moving it around the grid is the single largest problem with it. Commuters with solar will rarely need to charge away from home so the grid isn’t in play and actually gets relief. As far as forcing things go, wasn’t it big oil that bought up transit lines only to dismantle them?

Promoting solar is not an issue to me, and as I've said before, I want electric vehicles to succeed.

Edited to add- I'm not familiar enough with the transit lines, but Ill be sure to look into it.

 

They also banned the sale of leaded gas. Market wasn't really fixing THAT issue in a timely fashion.

When things scale up to full production for the masses they become cheaper and better . That’s why governments are promoting them . It’s accelerated it.
For gas cars to become used by the world they too required investment to build the factories to make them and gas stations to have been built .
Also petrochemical industries are subsidized to some extent in this current day. If not gas would be like over 10 bucks a gallon.

 

The fact of the matter is that EV’s will take over as a majority of the cars on the road at some point. It won’t happen overnight and no one posting in this thread will be forced to get rid of their ICE cars/trucks. Well until fuel becomes $10 gallon that is. The power grid needs updating for sure and it’s being updated with renewables, my boomer electrician dad is constantly spouting out anti-solar facts that are decades behind the times. He worked in oil refineries for decades and refuses to accept that its heyday has passed.

That’s true but then the gubmint also banned asbestos, CFC’s, and a host of other things once they were proven to be a problem. But it’s less about pushing any particular alternative than it is about getting off of fossil fuels. ICE is so integral to society and tempting to keep using most seem all too willing to overlook the consequences and prefer arguments that disregard them.

As far as transit goes...
Didn’t see Who framed Roger Rabbit? That was Red Cart(?) but there was also the Key Route in Berkeley and the Ross Valley Railway in my area and I doubt it only happened here. Cable cars survived only as a tourist novelty preserved as is rather than receiving upgrades. Chicago kept the El but how many other cities scrapped their embedded transit?

 

I see 100% EV or other alternative clean fuel vehicle around the year 2100. I think by then it will be illegal to own a petrol car.
