You sir, have done some serious research. Thinking that one fits the realm of necessity for yours? Insta-spool, with plenty of top end flow?

This is not really a turbo question but has to do with boost and thought you guys would know best - I am readying things for the SC reinstall and find the 5th injector hose needs replacing. I have a replacement hose; is it as simple as remove/replace or is there more to it than that?

As long as the new hose is rated for fuel and pressure, it should be an easy swap.

Yes and no. It is basically a hopped up td04. So even though it flows an almost perfect amount it has the tiny t25 exhaust housing so it will heat up and heat soak rather quickly. Race truck? Yes. Daily and long hauling? No. A neat find nevertheless and would be home on a sub 2L with higher RPM capability.

    How does the HE351 compare?

I haven’t found a specific compressor map for the he351 but I made a couple of snipits from the YouTube video of one on a 3rz. He made a 5th lugged pull and this is the result.

    Starts building
    3rz with he351cw 5th gear lugged boost.jpg

Full boost he had it set to at that time.

A side quest was for a prebuilt t3 manifold. I stumbled across some strange similarities between various Toyota 2.xL inline fours. I’ve yet to find any pics with dimensions but they are very similar. The MR2 and a Celica ran the latter engines and some were factory boosted. The NA versions have some aftermarket and turbo manifolds are available. I may just break down and order a set of gaskets to match up to what I have for the 3rz.

The bolt pattern is 180* upside down though.

I believe this is a 2nd gen MR2 manifold, either a 3SGTE or the NA 3SGE. Eerily familiar.

Let's say the turbo manifold flange is 180° off. Clean cut and weld, and it will be good. Space for fitment is another variable.

I like what you have found with this.

If it’s spot on there are some cast manifolds floating about that would work since the t3 flange faces straight out. The tubular ones may need rotating if you don’t want a top mount or if the head contacts the compressor housing. Next time I’m by a parts house I’ll order those two gaskets.

Edit: If the gaskets show the ports are very close to being the same then a tubular mani could be fitted to a 3rz flange relatively easy. According to O’Reillys they cross reference for these mid ‘90s engines. Bonus is they show in stock at my closest store. All I need to do is get a 3rz on the counter along with one of these.

The parts house didn’t have the 3rz gasket like it claimed. They did have the 3SGTE gasket. So I bought it for $27. I get home and I can’t find my spare 3rz gasket I thought I had. What I do have is a spare VW 1.8t. So I dug the 10 year old PaceSetter header literally out of the bushes and line them up. All the upper bolt holes are spot on. The lower holes are not. They are centered on the 3SGTE mani and not on the 3rz. I never realized this. So they will not directly swap but the ports are nearly identical. I hate to open the $27 gasket just for runner comparisons but I’ll see what I can do in a little bit. Got some online work isht to do right now.

Well, very melodramatic in the end. It was close but not close enough. If it was a direct fit turbo manifold it’d be an awesome find. But being it isn’t, it isn’t. A tubular mani for the 3SGTE could be retrofitted to a 3rz flange but then you’d have to deal with the placement. Looks like all those mani’s are tucked in tight and to the rear.

    Some old school template tech.

Could you flip the gasket over to the other side? The left and right lowers are different spacing.

I just returned for my $27 back. The lower two on the 3rz aren’t centered up on the ports like those on the 3SGTE. The 3rz is slightly offset towards the outer port.

Build your own? Or try a high school vocational school. The better students need projects to practice their skills and interacting with customers. You can make a donation to the classroom. Maybe you tack it up and just have them tig weld it.

Or make a mock up of the location and send it to me or @Torspd to build/weld.

Also have you considered a Garrett T3T04e? Good little turbo for the price.

Im seriously considering sending @Torspd some measurements or something to try and do up a twin scroll header for my 2tr. I'm having trouble finding anything on making one from scratch to really take advantage of the twinscroll.
