2020 TACOMA WONT SHIFT OUT OF 3RD

I’d say toss an OV Tune on it and see what happens, if it’s cruise related the tranny is a-ok IMO and there are software/shift issues galore with our trucks

 

yeah I am open to the tune, i am just trying to see all the possible solutions out there and use the warranty voiding options last haha

 

I think its an honest question to ask. To me if it shifts normal at lower speeds there's a good chance this isn't a mechanical issue. This is with cruise on or off? My truck would do similar (not as extreme) at stock height with stock tires. Mine was mostly fixed with the new updated tune.

I think an OV Tune is the next step to try.

 

shifts perfect around town and anytime im not on the highway, the problem occurs consistently on the highway anywhere between 70mph - 85mph more so with cruise on but will also do it with cruise off

Anyway to be running 5300 rpms, stock gears, 33s, your pushing 90mph. Looks like your at elevation on an incline. 3rd gear doesn't sound unreasonable to me based on my experience with the third gens.

 

These trucks Have the aero of a brick shit house. 5th is barley useful to me at 75+mph. So at 80 if you're not in 4th you're basically losing speed.

 

truck speedo has been recallibrated, and doing true 80 mph still does it, also does it 75mph and also does it at 70 mph.....

 

Put in S mode instead of D and select S5 or S6. I bet it will shift up

 

Does it do it in s mode?

 

also that road is actually down hill

 

S mode wont let me use my cruise so I have never tried

 

You should be able to cruise in s mode, I do it everyday.

 

At 5300 rpms with 33s you are either going:

• 37mph in 1st
• 64mph in 2nd
• 90mph in 3rd
• 133mph in 4th

Simple math. Might want to double check your speedo calibration.

when did ya file the TAS case ? any follow ups on your part ?

 

I'd mention that to the dealership.

 

it has been double checked, 1) speed enforcment radar 2) radar detector gps 3) the portable gps out of our plane..... the speedometer is Correct
