As of 2:05 pm, thunderstorms continue to east-southeastward across Central Alabama putting down copious amounts of rainfall along with producing gusty winds at times. There are no severe weather warnings in effect at this time, but there are a few Flash Flood Warnings in effect along the I-20 corridor in the central and east-central parts of the area. Flash flooding will continue to be a major threat as these storms are training over the same locations.

Back to our west, we see the second wave of storms has formed into a QLCS back over the western half of Mississippi and is heading in our direction. Nearly the entire line has Severe Thunderstorm Warnings in effect on it at this time. There are a few cells out ahead of that line, one of which had a Tornado Warning in effect but just recently was allowed to expire.

We are seeing breaks in the clouds in between the storms over portions of North/Central Alabama to the storms that are firing up over portions of Mississippi, which will allow the atmosphere to recover somewhat before those storms arrive in our area.

For now, surface-based instability is below 500 J/kg over the North Alabama counties, but quickly rises as you move southward across Central Alabama, reaching around 4,000 J/kg in the extreme southwestern parts of the area. Shear values are higher over the northern half of the area ranging from 40 knots around the I-20 corridor to 60 knots up in the extreme northwestern corner of North Alabama. Helicity values from the surface to the 3-kilometer level are running from 150-250 m2/s2.
As of now, the Significant Tornado Parameter is holding around 1.0. Right now, damaging wind gusts and large hail are the main threats, while we continue to have a smaller threat of a brief tornado or two.

A level 4/5 Moderate Risk continues for the southwestern portions of the area, which includes the cities of Livingston, Demopolis, and Eutaw.

A level 3/5 Enhanced Risk continues for nearly the rest of Central Alabama, including the cities of Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Clanton, Selma, Anniston, Talladega, Alexander City, Auburn, Montgomery, and Troy.

A level 2/5 Slight Risk continues for the remainder of Central Alabama and most of North Alabama, including the cities of Eufaula, Hamilton, Gadsden, Florence, Russellville, Decatur, Athens, Hartselle, Cullman, Guntersville, and Rainsville.

A level 1/5 Marginal Risk continues for the northeastern parts of North Alabama, including the cities of Huntsville and Scottsboro.

NWS Birmingham continues the Tornado Watch until 4 pm for the following counties in Central Alabama: Autauga, Bibb, Blount, Calhoun, Cherokee, Chilton, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Dallas, Etowah, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Marengo, Perry, Pickens, Shelby, St. Clair, Sumter, Talladega, Tuscaloosa, Walker, Winston.

Here is the timing breakdown for the progression of the threat of severe storms across the area:

Now through 5 pm… northwestern corner of Central Alabama and western half of North Alabama.

Now through 7 pm… In and around the I-59 corridor from the northeastern corner of North Alabama to the southwestern corner of Central Alabama.

4 pm to 8 pm… South of the I-59 corridor to the I-85 corridor.

6 pm to 10 pm… Along and south of the I-85 corridor.

Any worries about rain getting in the snorkel head? I read a little about how it’s designed to drain water but it was a monsoon as I was cruising down the interstate at 70, wasn’t sure how it worked in those kind of conditions

I've been seeing the 5th gen T4R's for around that price. The 10-13's, not the facelifted ones. Most had 150-200K miles. I also saw a 2006 GX470 non-nav in Atl with 126K(and extensive Lexus service records). They were asking 12 for it. I personally wouldn't go more than 10 b/c of NADA value. I get they hold their value, but I will never pay more than NADA for anything....just me.

That line of storms last night thru central and East Alabama meant business. Trees down from Montgomery to Lanett. We got some hail out of it

    From AlabamaWX

RADAR CHECK: Showers and storms are confined to far South Alabama and the Florida Panhandle early this morning where a flash flood watch remains in effect. The northern 2/3 of the state is getting a break from the rain as drier air has arrived. For North/Central Alabama, we expect morning clouds to give way to a partly sunny afternoon… the high today will be in the mid 70s for most places. The average high for Birmingham on May 5 is 80.

Tomorrow will be dry during the day; with a good supply of sunshine the high will be back in the mid 70s. Then, a secondary cold front will push into the state tomorrow night. This front could squeeze out a few scattered showers over North Alabama tomorrow night, but moisture will be limited, and rain amounts will be very light and spotty.

Then, Friday will be sunny and cool for early May with a high only in the 68-72 degree range.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Saturday will be another mostly sunny day with a high around 80 degrees. Clouds will begin to increase Sunday, and showers could reach some of the western and northern counties by mid to late afternoon. Showers and storms are more likely, mainly over the northern half of the state, by Sunday night. Sunday’s high will be in the low 80s.

NEXT WEEK: The first half of the week is looking wet at times and unsettled; we will forecast a good chance of showers and thunderstorms Monday through Wednesday with highs generally in the 77-80 degree range. Then, the weather trends drier by Thursday and Friday… See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

Video I captured with my drone before we were impacted. The shelf cloud is over Auburn in this video which is about 15 miles from my location. Very fast moving storm and I didn't have much time to film. By the time I got the drone back down safe (the wind was ridiculous) and downloaded the video to upload it to the storm squad we were hit. As a matter of fact as the video was uploading the line reached us. The last part of the video is just before I brought the drone home so this line covered some ground FAST!

Thank you! I wish I could have kept her up there longer but my drone only weighs 249 grams and 20-30mph gust are not nice to it. The gimbal performed really well keeping the camera steady. As soon as I cleared the tree line the motors went into overdrive to maintain my position. It shoots in 4K but the only video editing software I have exports to 1080p

Do you sell footage like that to news stations? I would think there is a market for it.
