    Fellas-

I have my truck scheduled for the fuel pump replacement on Thursday but am sitting on 3/4+ of gas. The service tech had told me no more than 1/4 tank but like a dummy I forgot and gassed up last week. I quickly considered a siphon job but that seems no bueno. Has anyone gone in with more than 1/4 tank? I'll probably need to reschedule.

The dealer told me no more than a half tank and that’s what I sent it in with.

I was asked to be under 3/4 tank this past weekend when I had it done. Maybe someone got it mixed up? I'd not worry about it and take it in under 3/4.

As long as its less than 3/4's we have no issue. 1/2 would be more ideal.

My notice says it doesn't matter but it takes less time if the tank isn't totally full

Thanks all. Hopefully its just a matter of convenience for the dealership. I'll run the truck good tomorrow and take me chances with 1/2+ tank on Thursday. Also prodding them to to perform TSB-0092.

I called in the morning to schedule an appointment for an AC warranty issue, there was an opening that afternoon and they said they could do the fuel pump recall at the same time. They requested less than 1/4 tank and I let them know I had a little over 3/4 and since I was working, I wouldn't be able to go drive around to burn gas. I told them I could bring it back at a later date for the recall, but the service rep checked with the tech and he said no problem they'd do both. I'm sure it's way more convenient to have less gas if it's possible though.

I called this morning and they were adamant about the 1/4 tank maximum. They claim their insurance company will not allow them to store more than 1/4 tanks-worth of fuel. I am over 3/4 tank this morning so will probably reschedule.

Great. So the techs are potentially stealing gas.

Mine was replaced and had ~3/4 tank, no comment from the dealership.

My dealer said come in with half a tank. I came in with a little less than a quarter of a tank though. I had mine replaced last week

I have dropped gas tanks in a number of Toyota truck and SUV models and must say it is easier when the tank is near empty, but not that big a deal when 3/4 full. I just ratchet strap it to a transmission jack and drop it. The fuel filter just pops right out of the top - changing the actual filter takes about 10-15 minutes. Dropping the tank and reinstalling takes about 2-3 hours depending on if the fuel lines and other hose connections are cooperating or not. Sometimes they do not and it is a PITA! That's me working alone and I'm simply an adequate grunt mechanic.

My truck did not need the fuel filter replacement, and I know there's no cost to a recall repair, but I am curious if anyone knows how many hours Toyota estimates for a fuel filter replacement. Anyone have that info from their receipt?
