Thought I’d post here! New Tacoma owner! A little bit about my truck, my plans, and background... Bought a built out 2017 that I’m planning to daily drive and use for camping/over landing. My first car was an 86 4Runner, so I’m used to wheeling, stoked to be back in a lifted truck! My girlfriend and I have been doing a ton of camping in BLM land in a Saab 9-2x, with a tepui roof top tent. We are both pumped to have something more capable and safer for us to go a little deeper into the wilderness.

My good friend and I have recently started a van conversion business, so I have learned a lot about installing solar, water systems, propane, etc. I’m looking into potentially adding a RSI smart cap and building out similar systems in the bed of the truck. I have a few ideas but I think that’s a ways out for now. I’m planning to see what others have done and slowly piece together a setup that will be ideal for my needs.

I added some photos. A few of the truck one of me on the first night taking the truck out, and one of my the trusty 9-2x!20034CA0-75F8-4EA4-8FBD-55517959A3E1.jpg5F4A7FDF-3B7D-42B0-A19B-BEF30C547B1D.jpgCA73B634-6114-438C-9C05-73925B4BC61E.jpgBA3FD43A-7342-4256-84EE-2B0FF12190EC.jpg

Pumped to be here! If you guys have any suggestions on threads to follow let me know just really learning to navigate the forum for now!

    Cheers!

Another thing I just thought of! The leafs on this truck are squeaky as hell I’m open to any suggestions or threads that might help it’s pretty damn annoying. I’ve read a few threads, and am going to try to clean them out soon, but if anyone has found a permanent solution to this problem let me know. It seems most are clean, lube, and add some sort of rubber(bike inner tub, spacers), if I’m missing anything please let me know.

Welcome and nice rig! I’m dealing with the squeaky leafs as well, still trying to figure it out. I power washed them and threw on wd40 silicon and that helped for a few days but the squeaking has returned. I’m considering throwing on some thicker lube that doesn’t dissipate as quickly

so I have read that wd40 only works for a short while... I ordered some of this:

    BOESHIELD T-9 Rust & Corrosion Protection/Inhibitor and Waterproof Lubrication, 12 oz. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001447PEK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_M7HGKNNP0HDBNGG06WYV?_encoding=UTF8

I have read this stuff works, but I think my game plan is to bring it to a shop to have them look at it and see what they can do and for how much. I was going to spray that stuff on but I don’t want to make them all sloppy right before they work on them. I’ll DM you if the issue is resolved after I take it to the shop or if I try that spray out. I would like to do it myself but I don’t really have a safe place to jack the truck up and work on it probably better for me and everyone in the truck down the road to have worked on by a pro haha

Yeah definitely let me know but post to the thread to share the knowledge! Not too hard just jack the rear diff and remove the rear tires 2 hour job max

BTW do you have an in cab switch for that winch or do you only use the controller?

yeah the shop quoted me at $160 for an hour to look at it if they fix it the deduct some cost, but that is way too much for me haha

I think I’ll get a little sketchy on the sloped driveway and see if I can resolve the issue on my own. Might end up just prying the leafs apart and not even have to take the wheels off. I’ll probably end up doing that this weekend so hopefully I’ll be able to report back soon.

Just the controller on the winch

So yesterday I power washed out the leaf packs then got distracted cleaning the whole truck... I let the packs dry over night and got the rear corner up on a high lift jack and spread them a bit. I sprayed a ton(~1/4 can on each pack) of the Boeing T-9 on the packs and they are silent, for now. This stuff really works it’s way in between the metal on metal and gets deep in there. It says that it has a waxy finish when dry so I’m really hoping that it lasts. It might become part of my routine when cleaning to finish by spraying that into the leaf packs.

In other news I found a new squeak in the upper control arm in the front that can’t be solved with the T-9 spray, so I found more things to do!

also attached a pic of the shiny truck
