Is anyone aware of a way to eliminate all the non essential wiring (i.e, sensors , optional wiring not being used, tow package wiring harness) and still have the engine run normal? Or will the ECU shut down the engine with out it?

Well if you have wiring that is not connected then the ECU has no idea if it is cut out and removed or not. So the short answer is yes you can cut and remove any unused wiring in your truck and toss it in the garbage. You will just need to ensure you insulate the ends where you cut the wires to prevent shorts and grounds.

A better question is why? What would be gained by doing all of this work?

    I don't see the point.

I’m not sure what non essential sensors are in the truck other than maybe the ambient air sensor, that wiring is tucked into another loom going back to a harness though. You may save a few ounces of wire at most.

I want a strictly offroad vehicle and I need every bit of electrical power for offroad lighting , etc.and basically just want to keep everything very simple to maintain and troubleshoot. Not going to be a daily driver.

Its your truck. But that isn't considered "non essential wiring".

If you really want to keep it simple, forget about the OE wiring and concentrate on doing the best you can with the modification wiring.

that’s easy enough to do. Just unplug them. You aren’t saving any power I’m sure the injectors and ECM use more power than the ABS or SRS. If you want that simple, swap in a crate motor.

Or just pull the fuses. No need to pull out the wiring harness'.

Removing un-powered wires or wires that are not connected doesn't save any electrical power.

Disabling safety systems and / or engine control systems will most likely leave the truck undrivable.

My goal is something just shy of a baja truck. dash, carpet and all trim is coming out so the less exposed wiring the better. ITS NOT A DAILY DRIVER! I agree that a crate motor may be the way to go.
