Deutsch flange is the plan. Not quite fully squared away on that yet. Working on it.

Do you know where you'll be sourcing these? I've done a little research for an upcoming project and believe I'll order from here but haven't decided. I'm open to vendor suggestions.

Received mine today. I’ll be starting my 3rd brake light install on my softopper this weekend. Should make wiring way cleaner. Thanks!

I think Johnny had a few ideas on where to buy from in our back and forth on this subject. So stay tuned for a public broadcast from him. Something about possible 3D printing of a dual sided flange with help from @RyanDCLB or his brother?

I’m waiting on the final plan a bit as well, though I ordered a 6 pin Deutsch flange off eBay. If jumping ahead, the one thing to consider is if you don’t have a Deutsch crimper, you want the not-solid (I.e. stamped) pins. Which is what I did for mine but I also am quite tempted to have an excuse to buy a Deutsch crimper.

I was thinking of these assignments:

    1. Ground
    2. Brake
    3. Lock
    4. Unlock
    5. Dome 1 (white)
    6. Dome 2 (red)

This is what I'm considering. It does involve drilling a hole.

    https://www.amazon.com/OptiMATE-Cab...sae+socket+flange&qid=1619634401&sr=8-14&th=1

I've seen a few others that use screws, but meh.

Granted, this would only be for the brake light, you'd have to try a different option for running power for lights, etc.

I have a few more deutsch 3 pin receptacles on order. Plan on offering a few different "kits". The 3 pin will do brake and a place to hook up the shell light as well. For the more basic topper install. Then there will be a 6 and an 8 pin option, those can integrate turn signals, reverse, parking lights, pop-and-lock latches, and cab lights. They will require running a wire back from the battery (or other 12v+ source, preferably constant). I will work with @daveeasa to offer a bed light tap on it as well for the 2020+ models. These WILL require drilling (unless someone gets really creative I suppose), but the flange will make for a nice clean install.

Mouser is a good start. I've gotten stuff from the store you link, no complaints at all. But I wanted to use black, and they don't offer them. Some of the black deutsch flanged stuff requires some creativity in sourcing though. I bet I have 4 different sources for 6 parts...

I will put you at the top of the list for the next batch. I will knock out small batches here and there to avoid making anyone wait too long....
    Added.
    Added as well.
Damn, I bet that is bright!

Hey @Puppypunter I got the brake tap a couple days ago and was looking at installing it tonight. I must have had a brain fart, didn't even think about the tail (running) light. I see now this tap is for brake light only. Is there a way for me to add a wire at this point to your tap to include the running light? No worries if not, I should be able to wire that up separately. Looks like I may need to add wire extensions anyways as the wiring my brake light came with isn't quite long enough.

Also, I see the question above about how to run the wire from the brake light housing into the bed. I wasn't seeing an obvious way to run the wire. Is there any reason not to drill a hole? I'm not familiar with a deutsche flange and don't really see how the ones in the link above would help. Looking for something quick and easy so I can get this finished up.

    Thanks for any input!

I can send you a wire for the tail light if you want, no problem. I’ll make up a longer set of wires for the brake and ground as well. You’ll have to depin the connector, but it is easy to do. As to getting the wires from the taillight to the bed, I think there is a very small amount of room all the way back where you can run it under the side rails. That is the way mine was ran when I had my topper installed. I like the deutsch option as it allows for the topper to be easily disconnected if you remove it. I don’t see any reason not to drill a hole (I have a few in my bed, and Toyota themselves must approve as that is a requirement to mounting the bed lights). If you are interested in a deutsch option, let me know.

@Puppypunter that would be awesome! I'll send you a message about covering shipping cost, materials etc. Thanks!

I'm not seeing a space to get wire into the bed, but I also have a canopy that might cover that up.

No need to worry about covering anything, it’s on me. How long do you need the wires?

I received mine and I am looking to source the other parts I need to add a third brake light to a softopper. This is what I am thinking so far. Will it work? And for a three wire brake light (white=ground black=Marker red=stop) how would I wire this?

I am not sure about the color coding on this bar, but it would work. You will need to add a parking tap to take advantage of that function though. I can send you a wire for that. They are pretty easy to do. I am going to offer a deutsch connector soon (hopefully by the beginning of next week) that can be used for this too. But I think the stuff you have there would be okay as well. The limiting factor is the plug is only 2 position, so you could do brake, but not brake and parking light (you need a ground too).
