Are you the creator of CVC tune (guessing based on your name here)?

I am looking into a tune for my 2020 TRD Pro and was looking hard at the KDMAX but a local guy is trying to sell me on the CVC. Learn me please! Does the CVC take care of the gear hunting and improve throttle response like KD?

@chanvchau , looking for a tune PM sent. Are you able to bump up the alternator for an AGM battery also?

Chan did the CVC Tune on my truck a little over a week ago. I have put about 100 miles on since then (2020 TRD Off road). I am very pleased with it and the gear hunting issue was my biggest complaint pre-tune. MUCH better now. Throttle response is also much better, the more I have driven it the more I like it. Even my wife commented on how much smoother it seems.

I got the honor of testing out the KD Max tune, along with some of our testers also testing out KD Max tune AND CVC Tunes. I will tell you this brother:

IF YOURE IN NORCAL, GET THE CVC.

Aside from the tune, I'm local and offer local support.
Regarding the tunes, my CVC Tune is based on NORCAL terrain and my personal driving experience. It shifts the way I felt was appropriate, it puts down power where i want it to, you're not just getting local support, you're getting a local tune, tailored for the environment around you.

I tested the KDMax tune and its a great tune. However neither tune will completely remove gear hunting. on the freeways, yes, but on the mountain, both still hunt a bit. My tune holds gears a bit longer (intended to do this) than the KDMax. KD Max will shift into 6th a bit earlier, which is more efficient on FLAT highways. As far as power, they are VERY similar in power, whats different is where the power is delivered. I Personally like my tune more, but I am biased. I created it based on my own driving in NorCal and for those around here. I also have guys who test out my tunes and share feedback to improve it. It not just me!

Thank you for sharing. I am in East Tennessee and we have quite a few hills/mountains. I have heard that KDMAX has a “dead spot” on the throttle at the start whereas the CVC does not?
I guess what I am looking for is smooth, consistent throttle response/delivery and improved (I understand likely nothing will be perfect) shift points. What I have found from reading reviews is that OVT is not the tune I desire, but rather KD or [now] CVC. Thank you!

DM sent, Chan. Looking for AGM battery > alternator output mod, and to see what you have for manual transmission tuning. Thanks

CVC tune is amazing, I have almost no complaints about it. I have tried OVtune 2.0 and it's leaps and bounds better. MPGs increased back to what I had before 33's, the power curve is silky smooth, everything is great.

I only wish there was a "milder" throttle version. If you hit a bump, making your foot tap the throttle, you will launch the truck. It "feels" like you only use the first .5-1" of the accelerator pedal, so it's verrrrrrry touchy at low speeds.

Otherwise, the best tune I've used to date, by a longshot. I was surprised that I can cruise at 80-85 in traffic again without feeling sluggish, while getting 20+mpg. My speedo is calibrated correctly as well!

I didn't know a tune could do all that. Is this with stock gearing?

Yeah. I have stock gears, and 33's. Steel bumper/winch etc.

While trying to get best MPG I was getting 15-18 MPG before, now I get 18-22+.

Honestly, I was originally skeptical and just went with the base OVtune 2.0, modified for 33's. But it wasn't that big of a difference over stock (with the newest TSBs that honestly copied OVtune). So I talked with Chan and decided to try his CVC tune out.

    Big difference.

    Chan's a nice dude too.

Still wish it wasn't as touchy, but that's just me being peculiar.

Aaaaand taken from my commute through Sacramento on the way home. Mix of 80mph, and a few slowdowns of traffic on the way home.

AC was on the whole time!

I could have gotten more MPGs if I had more freeway time.

    Thanks @chanvchau

Your described throttle response is why I was looking to the SLT version of KDMAX, to minimize this ‘launch’ effect.

Any 3rd Gen trucks that are on the fence teetering about getting your truck tuned by @chanvchau don't hesitate and DO IT. I had it done yesterday. I was going to wait a few days to comment but there was such a noticeable difference.
My 18 off road was giving me so many issues with gear hunting, weird vibrations between 30 and 40 mph, crazy rpm surges, just about everything that makes these trucks run like crap.
The tune has fixed/helped just about all of this. Once I stepped on the gas pedal to leave it was instant power from the top of the gas pedal. I am still in the "break in" process and will return to give an update in a few weeks. I cant thank Chan enough! Super knowledgeable guy and will listen to every question you have and address it.
A couple shout outs to @tacomarin for helping me with my truck a few weeks back. Also to Tony @tonered for helping me choose to do a TSB update and then get the tune.

Let's link up again, I have a version that will tone down that initial tip in. I had it dialed in when I had smaller tires, I've done it for a few guys and they all said it was perfect for them. As promised, I'll take care of ya!
