About to order a RSI smartcap which has a ridiculous lead time. Want something for the bed to hold my roof top tent that won’t break the bank in the mean time

I see used Thule Xsporters pop up on craigslist/FB all the time. Usually < $400 and easy to sell later.

If its temporary, then I 100% agree with @PahalaTacoma, buy a used "ladder rack" type thing, then resell it for what you paid when your topper comes in.

Like others said, buy an affordable aluminum rack that'll hold your tent. If you're looking at steel, buy one sooner than later, prices have skyrocketed. Never thought I would see aluminum cheaper than carbon steel.

As mentioned, uni strut. Comes in different materials so getting on stout enough is easy. There a a bunch if different clamp and braces available. You can build some really oddball shaped stuff with it.

For real cheap; I'd suggest 2x4's but the price of wood has gone crazy too.
