I've somehow managed to convince all my coworkers that our meetings can be emails and our emails can be shit mentioned in passing.

 

I think as the advisor he'd need to communicate directly with customers bringing their vehicle in for service...be the guy that tells them theyre just out of warranty and an oil change on their X5 will cost $500

 

Diving into this pretty late but my own thoughts, as a manager, is that employees respond much better and are willing to work for you if you truly value what they bring to the table.

No one wants to work their ass off and feel unappreciated. Much less, do things when being asked or told after already feeling unappreciated.

 

From the perspective of a non-manager, this is dead on.

I can tell you from experience that when you're manager is the ex wife of the man that owns the company, things get weird

Luckily she left a few years ago...er...got fired

Thinking back on it, I've had 6 different supervisors since I started here lol.

 

Oh yeah. Relationships of any kind make a mess. My previous boss was best friend of president of the company since they were like toddlers or something, and they were friends with most of the other people. Getting anything actually done in an efficient way was basically futile.

For all intents and purposes I do pretty much manage myself since they let everyone else go, I submit my day off requests to the IT supervisor since they merged my one man dept with theirs. But that's really the only time I ever communicate with him.
