Yeah, this market is f'in insane. We bought less than a year ago for $495k. Current zillow/redfin estimates have us over $600k. 20% in one year is fucking stupid.

"The Proud American" used to be based at a small museum at my local airport. They also had the P-51 "Valhalla". Unfortunately, both planes were out flying the day that my wife and I went to check it out. Kind of a bummer. We poked around for about an hour and were getting ready to leave when the Skyraider came back. It did a few low passes down the runway before landing. The docent called us over to the open hangar door. We got to watch her taxi up while folding her wings. I could almost touch the folded wing when she stopped. The pilot shut down and they hooked up a tug and pushed her into the hangar. The pilot said I could climb up to take a look in the cockpit, just be careful because the wing root gets oily. He was right. The engine was still ticking as it cooled, and I got filthy from the oil, but it was totally worth it.

FWIW, "The Proud American" was an oddball Skyraider in that it has three seats; most Skyraiders only have one for the pilot. It was originally a electronics plane of some sort, it had a small compartment in the fuselage that had two very narrow seats side by side located below and aft of the pilot.

The museum has since moved south, but I still see her flying around every now and then.

Did it used to be at the museum to the West of Paine Field?

No, it was Heritage Flight out of Bellingham. They've moved down to Skagit Regional Airport in Burlington now:

I'm pretty sure that the one out by Paine Field is Paul Allen's old project. It's a pretty cool museum that's on the list to visit. If you're up in the area, the Boeing Museum south of Seattle is incredible.

This isn't me, nor the Squadron I was assigned to, but I've flown both 975 and 586 back in '95-96, when I was a junior maintenance test pilot in S. Korea.

I'm an aviation geek who never made the jump to actually flying. My house gets an unusual amount of interesting aviation flying by, which is weird since we're not really on the way between anywhere. This morning I saw a Beaver on floats, a CBP Blackhawk and then a CH-47 that had it's refueling probe extended. Since living here, I've seen the Blue Angel's Fat Albert fly by, C-17's, a C-5, Grumman Goose, a Lake Amphibian, a guy in a powered hang glider looking thing, F-18's, P-3's P-8's, F-15's, F-16's, 747's. I'm also on the medevac helicopter route between the ski resort and our local hospital. I don't mind it though, it's not a constant noise and it's pretty quiet once the sun goes down :)

This is my Troop from Afghanistan. I'm briefly visible in a faded flight suit @ 3:33, just right and facing the one "dancing".

Man, that video makes it look like you guys are afraid of heights! :p

This is as close as I get to fancy flying machines. We had 8 Ospreys, 2 Venoms and 2 Zulus on board my ship for that cargo run. We're a commercial cargo ship, but we have lots of room for over-height cargo. We can carry CH47's and only the rotor blades need to be removed. Anything with folding blades can just fold'em and fit. We haven't had a '53 on board yet but I think it'll fit. We did carry an old S-61N that was set up in a passenger configuration. That was a looooong helicopter.

The worst with the houses right now is when banks get a house appraised for themselves they go on market value. So even if their own appraisal says a house is worth a price but it sells in a bidding war for 50 Gs over value it gets appraised at that value and likely so do many of the neighboring houses. Pair that with banks giving loans to pretty much anyone with the balls to buy in this market and houses are going for well over appropriate values (not accounting accurate inflation on the price). So either inflation fucks everyone buying because they end up with a big number to pay off if they don't pay it off before value of the dollar increases - or people are paying a premium for the property they bought. For people buying buildings for a business or making themselves house poor, that overhead or excessive cost vs what they get, will most likely catch up to them. Pair that with evictions being delayed till the end of this year and something like a quarter of all small businesses in the US closing in a year and people working from home causing many larger companies to make a significant drop in commercial real estate - basically killing the market for CMBS which have been lent around, rehypothecated, traded for bonds and CDOs.... What was it that led to the 2008 crash again... yeahhhhhhhh :c
Safe to say if you're buying now, at least find it in you to hold off until all these evictions finally come around, there will surely be good deals from that at the least

I had some classes in college about 15 years ago with a guy who had finished up his time with the 160th SOAR. He said the exact same thing. We were taking classes on a training ship and had regular emergency drills and training... I don't think he ever got above his resting heart rate.
