He has developed into a good player, but his antics - that constantly cross the line - are not right, at least in today's game. And his disregard for his fellow player's health tells me that he is a psychopath. His attacks on two Rangers a few days ago -unprovoked - shows just how unstable he is.

NYR did it all wrong. People can act like they "answered the bell" or somehow got retribution but how? They lost the game, Wilson beat up the guy that tried to fight him and those other fights meant nothing really.

That's just it. If the NHL is going to let guys like Wilson do whatever he wants, there is no way to get back at them by fighting. So soft dump and run the goalie or something. Or do what Buchnevich did, make Mantha eat a stick. Only bad thing is he's getting suspended for that (I assume.) I would've trucked the goalie in the 1st minute and moved on.

The one punch to Wilson’s face that was hard enough to knock his helmet off was well worth it :D

It is a rather futile attempt to take on a guy like Wilson in a fight. Cheap shots may feel good at the moment, and a team out of playoff contention with a few games left in the season can do that with little negative consequence, but it won't work for teams that have a reason to keep their players playing. Probably the best solution - given the NHL won't police itself - is for some guy to go after their stars or better players and beat then down. then, it will likely be tit for tat after that. You would think the Caps stars who aren't tough guys wouldn't be happy with Wilson's reckless play but he is actually insurance for them. You want to take out Oshie? Then you know your team's stars will face the insane wrath of Wilson.

Well ya that is essentially what I am saying. I think trucking the goalie is the lesser of 2 evils between that and taking a cheap shot at a star. Because you get likely get away with it and make it look like a mistake. If you want to take a cheap shot at Oshie or whoever, it's a lot harder to do without making yourself look like a hooligan or whatever. Just steam-roll the goalie over, half-ass make it look like it was a mistake and that is that. Look up videos of Matt Cooke doing it to the Islanders. Epic stuff.

Ya for sure. Like if NYR had a Matthew Tkachuk or someone insane like that, then all bets are off. But I just didn't see anyone on NYR who is really capable of pulling that off and being effective. And the fights really didn't work out that great. So I'd just steamroll the goalie as hard as possible. But regardless, the state of the game is not great, when it comes to these things.

And not to go on another direction but this constant need for analytics is what helped drive the big guys out of the game. You have charts/stats that try to make actual good players look like they suck because of stupid possession numbers and things that really cant be acccurately quantified. But you have guys like Simon, when he was in Pittsburgh, propped up like he was good because certain metrics made it look like he carried the play. But news flash, he wasn't good and people who know the game, weren't fooled. Then he gets waived by Calgary because, as I said, it was a mirage. Anyways, I think so much focus has shifted to everyone having to be a possession, skating type of player there it is impossible to make a case for a guy with size and physicality to be on the roster anymore. So when 1 of the few big guys (Wilson, in this case) gets to run around do do shit like this w/o punishment, there really is no good resolution anymore.

I also like what TO has done to acquire size. Yes, Foligno doesn't fit this mold but Thorton, Spezza, and Simmonds are all big body players who were high end talent for much of their careers. While they've lost their speed, they didn't lose their size and all three have stood up when size is needed. I'm excited to see them in the playoffs. I could definitely see the coaches giving the third and fourth line clearance to do whatever they want physically to create havoc for the opposition.

I have no doubt that if the Leafs are lucky enough to go deep and meet the Caps at some point that Spezza, Thorton, Holl, Foligno, Simmonds, and Sandin are ready to play to whatever level Wilson is, including going too far.

Who wouldn't like to see Jumbo and Spezza hanging off Wilson lol.

It was especially nice in the Jets game to see a Leaf put some punishment on a star player rather than the other way around. It helped convince me that the Leafs are not a push around team like they were last year.

Ya I agree. I think they have done a good job in how they built the team. The guys you mentioned are a great mix of size and physicality in today's game. Toronto weren't afraid to acquire some guys like that who fit a role. I think so many teams just think "if we have all 5'10 guys who skate fast", that it is the key. I'm not totally on board with that. The Pens kinda got away with it in 16-17 but that doesn't mean it should be the template, moving forward. Certain role players on the team, while maybe not the best skaters / playmakers themselves, allow your other skill guys to do what they do. It's a pretty simple concept and it's crazy to me that so many fans/media and even people in charge of teams have strayed away from that mindset.

And now the Rangers were fined for the statement. What an absolutely ass-kicking they are taking. Wilson hammering 2 of your players. AP done for the year and you lose. Then Wilson gets only a fine. The statement is released and the owner fires 2 front office people. Then Wilson beats up a guy on your team, no one really pays the price except for Mantha (which I'm ok with.) You lose. Buch gonna I assume get suspended. And he NHL fines the team for the statement lol. NYR should just stop playing. I'd just forfeit the last 2-3 games and tell NHL to F-off.

The NHL only cares when a major star, and I'm sorry but AP isn't a face of the game, goes down. Hence why if the Rangers wanted to do something you target Ovi. Only then do eyes open. It's sad but true.

I agree. He didn't play though. But I just feel like NYR is getting owned and really the Caps are probably laughing because they didn't lose out on anything.

Agree. He fines the Rangers for daring to question his failed system. This is penalizing common sense and the obvious.

Throwing this out there, what's more impressive as an individual player? 40 goals in 53 games or 96 points in 52 games? Nothing against the Oilers but it's kind of sad McDavid is having his eighteenth Hockey Christ moment in the media for piling in the assists when he won't win the actual goal title.

I think Matthews is 40g in 49 games. Both are insane. I just prefer AM as a player, so I guess I'm just biased. But both guys are incredible and fun to watch.
