What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

I did the same to my exhaust. I tried taking as much of the rust off as possible. Sadly the rust is coming back...

I kicked around the idea of BumperShellz but got all fixated on salt/water getting trapped under them and rusting everything, so I decided to dip the rear bumper.

I used Hyperdip and finished with Dip Coat to seal it. The taping off part was tedious but it went OK once that was done. On the first pass with a new can I got a lot spattering and was at stage 1 of "why can't I just do a truck project that works the first time". Total panic. After that the can settled down and I was able to cover the spatters with the rest of the coats. 9 coats total then waited a day for it to cure and put on the Dip Coat which hardens it and gives some scratch protection. We'll see how it holds up.

I also tried some Griot's Garage Black Satin Tire Coating. It was pretty shiny the first couple days because I think I put it on a little thick but it calmed down eventually to a nice satin.

 

That turned out really nice. Now on my ever growing list.

 

And then 77778 rolls around and......

 

Sorry for digging this up - but which fuse did you tap into for the switch? I have a similar diagram drawn up but thats the only thing I have yet to figure out...

What did you do for prep? Sanding or just a good cleaning?

 

I have an spod switch system. What's your diagram look like? I can help you pick out a fuse. Are you just looking for a switched +12v?

Scrubbed good using Dawn. Make sure it's 100% dry and there's no water left to drip out from under the plastic when you begin spraying.

 

That looks good to me. So it seems you're looking for a fuse for switch illumination with your dash lights? If that's the case, use the TAIL fuse.

The only thing I would suggest changing if you want is to tie all the grounds together and run those up to the fuse block as well. It'll help reduce the chance of bad/corroded grounds in the future and with electrical gremlins. That's how I did mine.

 

Thats funny... I originally had my diagram looking like this and someone told me to just do individual grounds Is this how you did yours?

 

Yeah pretty much, except I used an spod which takes care of the relay and switches and stuff. You have the right idea though.

I did mine with 4 coats of PlastiDip and it's held up great for the last couple years with zero issues. Granted I don't drag it across a boulder Lol. I always inspect it after a camping trip and to my surprise it looks pristine. Use a good plastic detailer and it'll always look new.
