7158C8C2-5AD8-4BA2-813E-950579559C25.jpg We are looking to purchase a used canopy for our 2008 access cab Tacoma; have located a fellow with a 2018 Leer cap sitting on his 2015 4dr Tacoma. His truck bed liner has a bed rail system that he's able to use clamps to attach his canopy. Ours has a bed liner but no rail system - both trucks have rail caps on the side of the truck beds. Measurements for both trucks seem to be the same; however the Leer 100R 77TCDC canopy he has does have a potential to curve too far forward at the top/front towards the truck cab where it may hit the truck's brake light. It's made for a 4 dr not the access cab we have but we're told it's possible it 'may' fit but the dealership hasn't tried doing so itself so couldn't commit to a yes or no answer. Has anyone happened to try to fit this particular cap onto a 2008 access cab? We are 6 hours from each other and are trying to get a good idea of whether this would fit to save us a 6 hr drive if someone knows it won't work. Also wondering how anyone else might attach this to a 2008 truck liner without the rail system (without drilling holes into the rail caps if possible). There is no lip with the liner installed.

    Stock for now.. maybe
Is the 4 door a six foot/long bed? If so you are good to go. 4 door long bed and access cab use the same leer shell configuration. Short bed and regular cab have different configurations

You say a 2018 leer... Does that mean it was made then or made for a 2018?

the measurements for both trucks appear the same 77 inches long and same width 65.5 at cab and 62.5 at tailgate so the measurements seem right I think from speaking to a Leer dealer it's more about the angle of the top of the canopy at the cab

    this is correct.

If the cap is meant for a 2018 (3rd gen) long bed, then it will NOT work on your 2008 (2nd gen) tacoma

If its already on a 2015, then it will fit

I would pass. I believe the tailgate on the 3rd Gen Tacoma’s is quite a bit different you likely won’t have a great fit.

Also the roof line is different between the two generations.

The clamps are crucial as that’s what’s holding the shell to your truck. You won’t have a way to connect the shell. You could source different style clamps and try to put something together but that’s going to take time and work.

Also post up some pictures of the cap on the dudes truck that will be the easiest and fastest way to tell

It will fit like it was made for it. If you order one new for your access cab you would get the exact same unless it was made for a regular cab.
Edit.. wait so was it made for a 2018 in 2018 or made for a second gen(2015)

His Cap's ID tag says its model# 100R 77TCDC- what we learned from Leer dealer today was the TCDC was for double cab and I assume 77 is for the length. And it seems to fit his 2015 truck perfectly.

Your truck has had the bed rails removed by a previous owner. You can buy them from a dealer or a junkyard but they are necessary to mount a cap.

YES it sounds like it should work from what I'm hearing here and the measurements we've both taken - BUT now - how to attach it!? Anyone have any good suggestions? There's no lip on our truck due to the bed liner...

I can't see where the rails would fit (or would have fit) on our bed liner - there is a 'pocket' on each side that would be where the rail would sit I assume. If we found rails not sure they could be installed with these 'pockets' situated where they are....

sorry I’m on mobile and shitty editing.

The red line and circles is where the rails would screw into. They fit above those pockets. 99% sure they use those existing screws or bolts that are there.

ah - thank you - I assumed the rails attached to the liner itself but sounds like they attach on the actual bed....
