You just inspired me to pull my Grand Trunk hammock out of the for sale bin and rig it up across the front of my camper...

 

How did you mount the VRNCLR bag? what does the backside look like?
I still can't justify that cost personally, but the functionality is huge, for sure.

I just need to store a headlamp, keys, phone, book, and some outerwear. Everything else has it's place down below.
I don't think I need so many compartments so the mesh zippered bag may work for me. Small stuff in the bag, outerwear stuffed on top.

also considering this kind of thing as a cheap alternative to that VRNCLR setup.

 

It's mounted with 3M industrial hook and loop that go around the corners of the bag

 

Ill be heading out in a week to pick up the camper. Any links to prep for the install for a second gen for sealing the bed? Or is it just pop off the bed rail caps and seal with aluminum tape etc

 

Idk about second gen, but for my first I should have sealed the bed rails at the front of the bed. Where the horizontal rail meets the two verticals. Water leaks through those gaps.

Yeah, on 3rd Gen there is a removable square tube that goes across there. It has removable plastic end caps on each side. You have to seal around those in addition to the gap between that tube and the bed rail/bed.

Not sure if that is the same on 2nd Gen.

Yeah, carefully remove the plastic bed rail caps and lay down your preferred aluminum butyl tape. I also took the time to seal the edges with some black RTV after prepping it with 70% ispropyl alcohol. I also ran RTV along the vertical of where the bump near the tailgate intersects the composite bed.

Likely, you'll have to chase down leaks on your own when you get home with the recommended butyl rope mentioned several times in this thread to stuff up along the front of the bed where it leaks.

Nothing crazy but wrapped up third brake light wiring. Used some bullet connectors I had. Hindsight should have made the connections within tail light housing to free up room within the channel. The hole in X1 frame was worth it tho.

 

Awesome, that's on my list.
I have the brake light wired, but that extra run to the existing opening bugs me.

 

Yeah thought I’d share. Simple but keeps it clean. Wire loom looks like it sticks out more in the pic but in person more flush. Shoulda made the connections in tail light tho but is what it is.

 

I’m 5.11. To be clear, this isn’t needed if you want to leave the rear panels in, I just prefer to leave them out when I can, so this allows me to leave them out and scoot the mattress back.

I just covered the holes on my 2nd Gen with aluminum tape before installing the new bed rail caps. I would guess this would work if you reuse the plastic caps.

Getting ready to connect mine. Just wondering, if you’re going to drill why not drill down like they did on our 1st gens when bolting them in? I already have wires coming out of the top of the taillight rear area inside the bed. The gap that the wires are coming through seems to be there from manufacture. It’s right above the old cargo hold we see in your photo, at the top of the “taillight bulge.” Could route right up into the channel if there was a hole. Not a critique, just wondering if I’m missing something, as I often do.

 

I did the same thing and made some custom aluminum bed rails like relentless and or Voodoo. SP is great talking with Spenser he makes a spacer kit out of Starboard for the bottom of the camper too raise the height so everything works as intended. He understands some people have these given the 2 gen issues with the bed sides ect.. and or people might have replaced there caps years ago. i would just mention you have aftermarket Bed rails so they have the time to make the spacer kit if needed. other wise the factory bed rails will work. just personal preference. i wanted to seal this area well for dust and water and wanted to use the metal replacement rails. .

i am having a little water intrusions I think in one corner on the passenger side of camper after spraying off all the bugs from driving back home i need to pin point where its coming from and silicone any gaps might of been missed. tailgate is going to be the biggest pain as its not intended to be sealed @nudavinci64 have any pictures of your tailgate seals just ordered some from Amazon?

Passage. Your bed might be slightly different and that could be a nice option. I like the side hole in X1 cus easy to route and access versus bottom and avoids one more hole in my bed rail on the top. Really didn’t want holes in the top of my bed rails and had to take 4 for the install lol.

 

yah I can link it. I thought I posted but let me grab the link. I have had the rear on the back for a couple years. I just bought another set to line the top which adds a nice seal as the "flap" in the back is not sealed per say from SP just bolted on loose.

 

Huh. Your bed does look a little different. Maybe they changed the bed after they did the refresh with the larger grill. Here’sa photo of my wires. They’re coming through a natural gap right above that leads down to the taillight.
