Norm on the other hand could snap his fingers and replace a 18X18 beam under a 150 yr old house without missing a beat

I hate how lawn mower shops will refuse to work on something because of the brand of mower, even though the engine is a Briggs. And the others have a 10-12 week wait time. I chickened out on replacing the governor seal.

In our case that's due to not being able to put the machine in the system we use to order parts. Even though the engine may be the same, if we can't put the unit in the system, then warranty work can't be done. If it's a carb cleaning/generic fix, then we can fudge some things and get a part ordered. Our wait time now is about 2 months and that's due to issues with the supply chain. Simple things can be done in a week

how do you line up the hole drilled in the edge of the collar? Thickness I get, but outside to inside of the ring, so it’s right through the thickest part of the material and not a ‘glancing blow’ seems complicated to me for some reason..

I had to talk a local shop into working on my craftsman rider with a Briggs motor, they usually don't work on craftsman or mowers over 10 years old and mine is both of those things.

Wait let me guess. I'm betting he bumps the side of the collar then moves the table over by half of the thickness of the collar.
