I think he is talking about female thread vs male thread. But like you said, 99% of mountain is through axle without threads. Sorry for the pedantry.

Close. The BMX female hubs like you posted - the bolts come out on both sides, instead of a thru axle that comes out. I think I remember seeing there was one or two that used a thru axle back in the day.

I see - couldn't quite make out what was going on in that pic in the link he posted. Interesting design.

There might be a market for a “TRD” style bed sticker that reads “SDF” instead. In fact maybe Toyota of Santa Cruz could offer an SDF Edition with tailgate pad, 12V cooler for post-ride libations, on-board air with a Presta nozzle to seat up tubeless, etc. And beefed up tie downs to attach a chain to, so your bike doesn’t get lifted if you stop around town.

the new 'maps' feature on Strava mobile app is pretty slick... seems like they're gunning for trailforks! it's more segment based rather than trail directions but it's free and could guide you on unknown trails in a pinch...

it is interesting how they made that a bigger features. It had been a features for almost a year but it was kind of hidden unless you knew where to look. I do really like how they can generate routes for you. The only issue in my area is that a majority of the short routes that I would use the feature for puts me on the bike path which can be ridiculously busy. At my parent's house it was great though because they are more suburb almost rural, same at my GF's house.

it's definitely hard to say since they just switched up their subscriber model a few months ago. I pay so it doesn't matter to me either way haha

Basically how mine's setup, as a mobile MTB base camp, it just happened to look a lot like the "O word" trend trucks because really they're the same purpose.

Onboard Air with a presta adapter gets to the wildest looks from folks with blown beads. TC bed stiffeners make for real solid places to padlock a chain to that isn't going anywhere fast.

BMX used to have 2 standards for axles. 3/8" or 14mm. It was widely known to use 14mm rear, and the front COULD be 3/8" if you aren't running pegs. But, I mean....Who DOESN'T run pegs? :p so they started doing 3/8" female hubs - the bolts on the ends are 3/8", that was a lot stronger than the 3/8" solid axle. So essentially you ran on the bolts that went into the hub itself, in a 3/8" fork dropout.

There's one section on the local bike path up a bend that people are running on strava it's kind of cool to see.

Same end goal with mine but a different direction. I won't have RTT, I'm in the cab, and my bike will be in the bed under a soft topper instead of off the back. Otherwise, yeah that's the idea is basically a mobile MTB truck. Problem isn't the truck nor the bike right now. Problem is my weight. :| a day on the bike would kill me  working on it though.

I'm in shape if I get to define the shape.

(I wouldn't be anywhere with a shuttle, this is RI, our highest point is like your driveway).

    True enough.
But to be fair to Manitau, this is their 20mm TA DirtJump fork.
It's safe to say from the design those DJ folks prioritize convenience and simplicity a bit differently.

I run it because it is a bombproof option for a non-tapered 26er. And 'good' options are limited.

I don’t have the RTT anymore and my rack is 1Up (unless I’m just using my pad) but I also have a Presta adaptor for my OBA, so we got that in common. The only place I’ve used it was a motel parking lot in Moab and there were no other MTB’ers there, so no one to impress. Good tip on the bed stiffeners ... since I don’t have a shell or RTT anymore I don’t really need them as stiffeners though. Anyway, I was mostly joking about the SDF Edition, but since Soquel Demo Forest (SDF) is a pretty well known riding area here, and the lot is usually 50% Taco’s, it might actually sell. The sales guy at Toyota Santa Cruz was pretty patient when I tested bike fit in the bed before buying mine, since I’d never owned a 5’ bed before, and wanted to make sure it worked. But nobody at the dealership looks like a rider, not even on a beach cruiser, at least not on the sales side.
