Got some irregular spark on both side. Haven't checked compression but one side is a clear miss and the other one is a weak spark. Ordered new igniton coils. 71.68 a piece from kohler. 17.50 from Amazon lol.

Yep. He wouldn't let us spend the money to fix it so he said scrap it. I'm in it ~120 bucks so far. I could probably turn around and sell it pretty quick. Blades and iffy too. But I'll just wait for some take offs.

 

The paint on the foot deck isn't even worn! Lots of life left in that machine!

 

Before you do anything, scribe both the shaft and the clamp with something sharp or use a prick punch.

Whatever he hit to bend these steering arms must have rocked him pretty good.

Schedule 40 tube takes a lot to bend it.

Had to heat the shit out of it to get the 1st bend straight. Still need to do the top bend.

I tried an aftermarket coil on an old Craftsman with a Kohler Magnum, started right up and ran great -- for 2 weeks...
Put a genuine Kohler coil on (about 3x cost) still going fine.

 

So tempting to use aftermarket parts due to pricing BUY ya never know what you’re going to get out of it

This is true. But for 1/3 the price I’ll take the gamble. I bought an Amazon Chinese carb and coil kit for my chipper 2 years ago and she runs like a top.

 

Especially electric stuff.
I remember working on the old GM cars with a solenoid shift starter, the Delco solenoid used about a million turns of really fine wire, the aftermarket ones used less turns of a heavier wire.
Worked fine cold but after a good heat soak on a hot day - click,click. put a genuine Delco solenoid on fixed the problem.

 

Btw I’m a real tech lol. I work on residential and commercial equipment. Everything from you’re regular push mower to wide area mowers, tractors, aerators, sprayers. I use genuine OEM parts on all my real jobs. This is a personal rig that I got for free so I’m not really worried about the parts.

 

I put an Amazon carb on a snowblower, $13. I was stunned at how nicely it was manufactured, beautiful castings and machine work, it was even packaged very nicely. Best of all it fixed the snowblower!
That one is a 10hp on a 24-26" blower, it will really throw the snow. I have $113 in it.
