It's our large frame powerpak 30gpm at 2500psi. It's a 56hp rated engine but ridiculously detuned. With program changes it'll crank out 74hp

It can be yours for the low low price of 30k:D

I would bring it up on my next review in order to get more money. You're so self sufficient you don't need no stinkin PM

    He/she manages the team overall

It's about gathering the right personnel, implementing them in the most appropriate and efficient manner, setting goals as well as expectations for those goals, and ensures that they are met.

One being in a position such as a project manager, means he/she can delegate authority, but not responsibility. So he/she is responsible to ensure everyone else gets the job done.

I could be completely wrong but it's a position @CS_AR suggested I should look into some time back. So I'm just taking a stab as to what they're actually supposed to do?

That's what sucks when you're a responsible and dependable person; you've got someone else that's being a complete jack thus requiring the project to require a PM.

Some employers can't even afford to let certain staff go due to shortages so they put up with the insubordination.

Good communication is especially important, as a leader. But more importantly, understanding.

This isn't meant as a brag but I believe it. Each week it seemed I was offered another job. I was offered one this last week when I went to visit my wife, another one the week before, and the other one at the credit union.

I didn't even inquire about the last two, they were just offered as an opportunity since I mentioned moving in the near future.

Most general labor jobs around here are hire on the spot with no sort of interview as long as you can pass a drug test. I see all kinds of sign on bonuses too.

My company is looking toward more automation to eliminate the need for so many people.

I have recruiters pinging me on linked in and via email several times a week. There is a shortage of good employees in every industry, it seems.

Its really the only option right now since nobody wants to work. The people we have are great and show up every day to work. Problem is finding reliable people to help out with the more labor intensive tasks. So by automating those tasks we can keep the current team happy and its less work and more money for everybody.

LOL - Well a more textbook definition.

Sometimes PMs get lost in the ancillary tasks and may forget the objective is to get the troops across the river as easily and quickly as possible so they can move on to the next battle. :)

Over the course of a project, the Project Manager will need to communicate with staff and clients, make decisions and monitor the progress of the project to keep it on schedule. Important duties and responsibilities for a Project Manager include:

    • Creating long- and short-term plans, including setting targets for milestones, adhering to deadlines and allocating resources
    • Delegating tasks on the project to employees best positioned to complete them
    • Identifying and managing potential risks and liabilities of multiple projects
    • Assisting in the definition of project scope and goals
    • Making effective decisions when presented with multiple options for how to progress with the project
    • Serving as a point of contact for teams when multiple units are assigned to the same project to ensure team actions remain in synergy
    • Communicating with executives or the board to keep the project aligned with their goals
    • Performing quality control on the project throughout development to maintain the standards expected
    • Adjusting schedules and targets on the project as needed
    • Motivating people involved in the project to complete tasks on time

And then there are Scrum Master types like me that work with the Product Owner to build a release schedule and removes obstacles so the team of experts can get the job done.

    Yep.

Generally, I practice a method that came from The Lodge meetings in Snowbird Utah. Low overhead with high results.

    https://agilemanifesto.org/history...., 2001,Agile 'Software Development' Manifesto.

On February 11-13, 2001, at The Lodge at Snowbird ski resort in the Wasatch mountains of Utah, seventeen people met to talk, ski, relax, and try to find common ground—and of course, to eat. What emerged was the Agile ‘Software Development’ Manifesto. Representatives from Extreme Programming, SCRUM, DSDM, Adaptive Software Development, Crystal, Feature-Driven Development, Pragmatic Programming, and others sympathetic to the need for an alternative to documentation driven, heavyweight software development processes convened.

Now, a bigger gathering of organizational anarchists would be hard to find, so what emerged from this meeting was symbolic—a Manifesto for Agile Software Development—signed by all participants. The only concern with the term agile came from Martin Fowler (a Brit for those who don’t know him) who allowed that most Americans didn’t know how to pronounce the word ‘agile’.
