One more question. How are you securing this database of VIN’s for tuned trucks? That’s got to be worth a lot of $$ to Toyota in denying warranty. There is value in NOT having your VIN registered as well.

    Devil’s Advocate....

I'm not going to post any information about our server publicly, but it is secure.

Any time a vehicle is modified you run the risk of voiding your warranty. No different than a lift, bumpers, off road gear, etc.

If you're someone buying a tune from a local service there is *zero* benefit for not getting your vehicle licensed. Contrary, there are future consequences if you ever want updated. (cost).

Not to mention zero future support for the old flasher. If you're someone providing services, and your old registration becomes obsolete you can't flash anyone without incurring heavy costs.

But what if for some reason Toyota sues you for cracking/tampering with ECU’s and you have to turn over your VIN database? Again, just playing devils advocate here.

No, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. I also didn't say "I" would do it personally. As a regular dude on the internet, I could probably do a google search and find enough precedent to half-ass defend myself against this. Sadly, legal battles are heavily weighted toward the person that has the $ to pay for a lawyer (or lawyers) and outspend the other party.

Thanks. You’ve proved my point that Toyota lawyers vs OVTune lawyers is a battle that has an obvious winner.

All you have to do is acknowledge that there is value in not having your VIN in a database of tuned trucks.

Chill out people. If you tune, you are running risk of warranty denial for powertrain related issues. If you don’t, then you aren’t running that risk. End of story. Doesn’t matter if you are tuning an Audi, a Honda, a Toyota, a VW, a Ferrari...

A VIN is just a vehicle identifier. Doesn't mean anything. A VIN being in our system is no different than a VIN being in carvanas, carmax, etc.

If you think what we are doing is any different than other vehicle software modification tools....I'd do some research. Some are much more intrusive.

Again, I’m just playing devils advocate here. I’m not an expert. The point was brought up that NOT registering your VIN in vF has the risk of paying $40, $60, $80, $200 or whatever the future VIN reg cost is. Got it.

I’m just pointing out that not having that VIN registered in a database that could be used against an owner by Toyota or others also has value. Is there value there? Simple yes or no.

Also, Carmax and Carvana are probably bad examples. They don’t list the VIN’s of vehicles who’s ECU’s have been modified beyond factory specification.

Again, I love my vF Tuner. I’m a fan. I’m just pointing out counter arguments that have value to this conversation about which tune to go with. I also think the vast majority of tunes these days are on VIN registered software.

A user with old software is no different than someone buying a computer with Windows 7 and using it for a few years. Then MS releases Windows 10. Am I required to update my Windows 7 computer to Windows 10? Are there benefits to updating to 10? Heck yeah. Are there risks to using that old Windows 7 computer? Heck yeah. Do I have to upgrade? No, I’m using what I paid for as I see fit as a consumer.

Not to get off subject.. but the KDMax is a game changer for 3rd Gens.. my own personal opinion.. aggressive throttle is the way to go.. IN NO WAY IN HELL its too responsive.. it feels perfect.. I can't see doing SLT or LT.. this is how the Tacoma's should drive off the lot.. @PapaRee & @TWTaco i'm sending you some new customers as we speak

A tune can definitely be too responsive, it's called excessive throttle sensitivity lol different people have different interpretations on how much is too much

Toyota can't do anything. Registered in our system doesn't equal "this vehicle has been flashed with xyz" you could register, flash a stock tune, and "IF" Toyota ever came knocking at your door you could sue them.
But all the hypothetical that won't happen is just time wasting talk.

I'm not talking about what tune to go with. I'm talking about that if you are providing a service you should be registering your customers. If someone has made the effort to avoid it, you'll have to double charge for updates we release.

I know people who are doing it just to maximize their profits, it will come back to bite them. That's their choice. But inform the people you're selling stuff to.
