Are the 2021 speakers crap? I'm picking up mine tomorrow from the dealer

12/27 update: no complaints so far with the '21 speakers

    Metal dome Kicker tweeters...No thanks!

The Kicker brand is a joke in the realm of SQ speakers.

I did this mod several months ago and to be honest there’s almost no difference. There was even a moment a couple weeks ago with the volume low when I started the truck, I couldn’t tell if the sound was from the iPhone speakers or truck speakers, not exactly a glowing review.

I’m actually going to be putting the Toyota speakers back in simply because they are higher grade parts.

Anyone with a 2020 do this mod and notice a big difference?

The funny part about audio is that it's always the old gits telling people what sounds good. Never mind their hearing went to shit years ago

If your high end hearing sucks like mine does (compliments of the U.S. Navy), the Subaru tweeters make a huge difference. If you're young and have dog hearing, not so much.

My question is if I buy a set of component speakers, will I use the crossover that comes with them or does the Toyota HU already separate the signals?

I had a 2010 until a month ago. So the 2021 factory speakers sounded better than it, but I noticed the volume still tended to be poor. I installed the new tweeters last night and the volume problem seems to be gone. The sound quality appears to be better, but I don't know that it's outstandingly better. However, I spent just $90, not $500.

I think many of us here see something shiny and new and go get it, without asking whether it's needed, wanted, or just a whim. I spent $300 for 4 wheels and tires 2 years ago from someone who drove his brand-new truck from the dealer to the tire shop for new rims and rubber. Seventy-six miles on the tires when I bought them. I ran the rubber for 2 years, sold that truck, and I now have 2 sets of wheels for my new rig.

Do the 72 hour test--wait 72 hours before pulling the trigger and opening the wallet. If it still makes sense 72 hours later, buy that bright, shiny object.

So don’t do what I did .....make sure you actually remove the plastic surrounding your pillar/airbag PRIOR to trying to remove the speaker cover. If you don’t you will snap one of the mounting tabs on it .....luckily I have JB Weld and think it will be A-OK but we’ll see.

I hope your right, my hearing isn’t horrible but it isn’t the best either....

I just installed the Kicker tweeters. I can't get the passenger Kicker tweeter to connect all the way (no click) to the speaker connector. The driver side Kicker connected just fine to the drivers side and the oem speaker will connect to the passenger side connector. Does anyone know of a fix for this? I would hate to have to go through the pain of returning the tweeters to Amazon and then reinstalling. Thanks.

Recently replaced my tweeters with Subaru. Overall improvement and I’m glad I did it. I wonder if some people aren’t noticing a difference in the upgrade because of the source of the music playing. I have noticed most songs sound much better, but once and a while one plays that I don’t notice a change.

Are they plug and play like the Kicker upgrade tweeters?

Tried to do this upgrade but my 2020 TRD Pro doesn’t have the correct harness for the tweeter? Anybody know the correct part of any?

Nice, I did this on mine (+ the other kicker speaker replacements). It did have better clarity at higher volume but it was unbalanced (skewed to the front). Does take some playing around in the sound settings to make it acceptable, but overall worth it!

Did mine last night. Surprised I could hear as much difference as I could. Happy with the change. I don’t daily my truck so just having something a bit better in there without replacing all the speakers was worth it.
