Recommend Roof Cargo Management

I have a Sherpa Equipment Co Grand Teton for my Double Cab Long Bed. I have my James Baroud tent ALMOST abutting my roof racks so I can't have a super long roof box. I'm searching for a recommendation for a roof cargo management system whether it's a Roam Adventure Co 95L (x2 boxes) or a thule or something else with length being the limiting factor. Water proof is a must and security (locking) is still also important. Gotta try to protect my things camping, mostly clothes or ski helmets in the winter.

I know Sherpa E is going to release a Roam adapter mount so I won't have to drill which is nice but they don't have in system locks, gotta by them seperate! The thule's/yakimas have locks but they look so funky and they are expensive granted any of these things are expensive.

Any recommendations, photos, pricing etc are appreciated!

 

The big name roof rack companies like Yakima and Thule make smaller cargo boxes if you want to go that way; the mounting is adjustable. There are also the lesser known brands like those sold in Wal-Mart, Pepboys, etc. Watch for used ones to show up in your area; I think lots of folks buy them then realize they don't like them and don't use them nearly as much as they though and they're bulky and take up storage space so they end up selling them. Plenty of people use Pelican cases or some variation of them too (such as the Harbor Freight Apache cases); there has been at least one thread I've seen here discussing them.

 

Hey thanks for the info! I was looking through and Yakima has a fairly long box as a small. The Thule Sidekick and Pulse seem to be in close range of just fitting over my double cab and not sticking out over the windshield. I may look and compare to the Pelican cases.

 

Jegs and Summit Racing also sell self branded boxes; no idea the quality of them but I'd assume they're Chinese made. Watch shipping costs if you order since all of them are oversized and likely to get damaged if not packaged and handled properly.

 

I'm hesitant to recommend pelican cargo case line as I had to return my first one due to rusting hardware. But the new bx90 replacement has been flawless. They have a mounting system from front runner which is nice too - attached it to my bravo rack. Had the 140 for a day or 2 and returned for the medium version; PLENTY of room in the bx90. funny you mentioned the pelican, I just snapped a latch on my pelican like earlier this morning and now I have to fill out warranty on it.

 

On their new cargo line? They’re quite beefy. It’s the stupid front runner latches that absolutely suck balls. Held together with rivets. I snapped one on my last trip. Replacing rivets with stainless hw.
