Well, you must went to the cheap paint shop because I saw some perfectly repainted cars. You won't notice if it was repainted or not.

However, you must be ready to pay to have a quality paint and also a quality job. At least 5k$ for the small car :)

Disclaimer: my friend owns a auto paint shop and he does an amazing job. The costliest thing isn't the time but the paint itself. Something like 2/3 of the price is for the paint.

Agree with selling/buying another truck with the color of choice. Pulling out the interior, painting door jambs, engine bay, etc...requires alot of labor and prep. Wouldn't be surprise if it's at least $5K-8K.

Although this guy might give Earl Sheib or Maaco a run for their money. Consider him if his warranty is competitive and his 'shop' is more than a couple of buddies holding up pieces of cardboard.

chrome the truck out. I konw a guy that can chrome the whole truck. You send him the empty shell and panels, he sends you a chromed truck.... fitment may be a little tight afterwords....
oh, and it will be a tad heavier.

What color are you going to? I have an '06 double cab trd sport in silver I'd trade +/- money depending on what you have. Wanted a Speedway blue but couldn't find when I was buying.

Way more than the cost of selling your Speedway Blue and buying a Magnetic Grey, especially when you factor in lost vehicle value. I paid $4,500 for the body and paint on my Mustang, and it's nowhere near show quality. A really nice paint job alone can be $10k +, especially if you want "factory".

People are right, your paint job will never be as durable as a factory paint. It can look very nice, though.

wrong wrong wrong. the factory paint is much thinner than a re-sprayed vehicle.
and unless you get garbage paint, the re-sprayed vehicle will be MORE durable.

And if you get garbage paint, you'll know it. :( I had my 2000 S10 resprayed for $500 and it would scratch or scuff if you so much as looked at it funny.

With the resale value of the Tacomas I'm wondering if he could trade his SWB for a Magnetic Gray for less than the cost of a good paint job, like others mentioned in the thread.

i got quotes from some high end paint shops in VA to paint my AE86 Corolla. now this is a micro machine compared to our trucks and i was looking at 3k +. Im thinking for a GOOD paint job on your truck might be looking at 6k +

Also color choice makes a big diffrence as well, i know red and anything with peal will be way higher then other colors

Sell it and get the truck you want. A good paint job will be at least 7-10K. Waste of money!
